Washington (CNN)In his first six months in office, President Donald Trump has overseen a steady transfer of powerfrom the White House to the Pentagon, handing off several warfighting authorities that previously rested in his hands -- and those of past presidents of both parties -- to the Pentagon and the commanders overseeing the US' military campaigns.
The moves are intended to empower the military at a tactical level, bolstering the US' intensifying fight against ISIS and al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups to praise from several current and former military officials.
But those efforts have also raised concerns about whether Trump expects to face the same level of accountability for military decisions he has kicked down to the Pentagon and have drawn attention to the inherent risks of downsizing the White House's role in overseeing the US' escalating military campaign against ISIS and al-Qaeda and its offshoots.

To say nothing of The Best and the Brightest. Didn’t they micro manage the introduction/early M-16 to some absurdly deadly degree?

That’s the first I have ever heard of a B52 tail gun ever fired in anger!
Can anyone elaborate on that story?

I also recall a terrorist attack in Benghazi that went on for 13 hours. The Americans on the ground fought heroically for over 13 hours while they called repeatedly for air support. No help ever came and nobody knows what obama was doing while Americans were under attack in Libya. It was disgraceful the way obama and Hillary abandoned the Americans in Benghazi. If it wasn't for the bravery of six Americans working security there would have been many more lives lost in Benghazi.

They all turn over on a five to ten year timescale and there are plenty of first rate non-political colonels and captains who can be made into admirals and generals. Marshall did a lot of firing and promoting in the ru up to WWII.

Several migs were shot down by B52 gunners, but overall, the mig’s were successful against conventional 52 tactics w/o us escort fighters.

Historically that’s the case.
Unescorted bombers don’t fare well against fighters.

What is CNN afraid of? That we will win a war? Only a democrat can lose a war that's already won.
