I agree. I don’t like to read the hate and name-calling against gays on this Forum; so many LGBTs are people who were wounded so badly in early childhood. They need our prayers and encouragement, not scorn and condemnation of their chances at renewal. That said, we do scorn sinful behavior of all types from all types of people.

Too much “hating” causes the contrast between the body of Christian believers and the stuff that these folks have wallowed in to become nonexistent. Given two devils, people will usually choose the devil they know.

Christians should learn how to warn and invite without hating, and to make it genuinely look like it is about a sincerely caring God.

It takes a dedicated believer to endeavor to love a sinner out of his or her sin, and show the endeavor as actually sincere. It’s one thing to mouth the words, it’s another one to radiate the attitude.

Some Christians may be afraid that bad attitudes will rub off on them. And they might even do so, for a moment. The key for the Christian is to know when to say enough for a day, then to go wash in the blood of the Lamb. And the washed Christian will be a little wiser the next time around. “They overcame [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.” Christian courage grows when exercised.

It is like the frequent adage: hate the sin but love the sinner. The sinner entering the body of Christ can come into better and better fellowship as he believes then uses the Blood to wash his own sin as needed.

It may be hard to impart an idea of what washing with this Blood is like. It is ministered by the Holy Spirit as a force that restores peace and assurance and bestows holiness and pardon. The sinner’s own instinct will be “I must punish myself, and I will wallow in this mud to do it.” But that is what the world taught him to do, often in such dysfunctional (and sinful) environments as what you mention. Recapping the themes of his childhood may be a necessary part of the process of this cleansing, and God in His wisdom will present the necessary material, though a knowledgeable counselor may be able to participate in that helpful outreach.
