The blackmail tax bill just passed and now going to the Governor's desk. I pay about 6K per year in property taxes and fees. No kids in school after this semester. I can work remotely from anyplace with high speed internet.
Not one abortion mill in the entire state from what I understand.
Live in ft mill and wrk in Charlotte. Very low cost of living and property taxes but access to tons of great jobs. Also 2 hrs from mtns. 2.5 hrs from beach and lakes about 30 min away.
I pay almost $10k in property taxes now and $7500 in State Income tax (before the hike) ... no way I can stay here.
Thanks Governor Rauner! You're chasing another high income earner from the state
Do you have any idea how many former Illinois residents already live there? Florida's gonna become another Illinois before you know it.
I am concerned that this solar minimum is going to make the next decade much cooler( ok 2 to 3 degrees) so I am thinking about going south but all options are still on the table.
“Dont move to Texas. Property and sales taxes are both high here.”
If you are a vet or disabled vet, property taxes are pretty cheap.
Move next door to Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky or Indiana. That way you aren’t too far away from you former haunts.
Become a Hoosier.
Relatives and friends have moved there from Illinois.
“You can move anywhere - its trying to sell your Illinois house that will be the problem. People in Cook County will be giving their houses away just to move out.”
Damn water heater explosion. Hate when that happens.
Texas is a much more conservative state. Not so much in the cities, but everywhere else. Far from a perfect state, but more conservatives will only make it better.
:-)
We moved to FL 4.5 years ago. 1hr north of Tampa. Bad news, they’re building up and it’s getting crowded in some areas, and driving around Tampa, Orlando or on “DIE”-4 can be a big PITA, I will never again complain about traffic in NYC. Not to mention construction crews along the main roads constantly “playing in the dirt” reconfiguring intersections and widening projects. And we do have some fruits and nuts around. FloriDUH jokes aside, even that’s not as bad as the media portrays. Otherwise there’s still plenty of nice areas, no state income taxes and very reasonable property taxes with deductions for homesteading.
Texas or Florida. When you retire you will find out even more how you can’t afford to live in Illinois. It will only get worse...
If he’s from Illinois your summers won’t faze him a bit... they will actually feel cool without the humidity he’s accustomed to enduring.
100% disabled vets pay 0 property tax in Illinois.
And those classified at lesser disability still only pay based on percent.
Depends on where in Texas. There is no State income tax in Texas which is pretty cool.
Alabama is a pretty good conservative state. State taxes aren't exactly low though. Property taxes are reasonable.
Click the links state by state to see the tax rates then begin
looking at other positives/negatives.

I don’t blame Governor Rauner, he is mainly the result of the last massive tax increase that went sideways. I think the two separate bills(tax/spend) that just passed were veto proof majorities anyway. No, we the people of Illinois(not me specifically) have done this to ourselves by perpetually re-electing criminal kleptocrats.
Added bonus: Alaska is a sportsman's paradise. The 2nd Amendment rules - no registration or permits required. The people, of course, are real friendly and polite.
There are, however a couple of real cities, Anchorage, Juneau, Ketchikan, which I would avoid, but small towns of 2 or 3 thousand souls are very nice places to live and raise a family.
Of course, you will have to live in an igloo and develop a taste for whale blubber, but other than that...d;^)
As NTHockey said: Just remember, wherever you move to, NEVER,EVER say Back in Illinois, this is how we did it.
Gov is still negotiating.
May I recommend Texas? You are a solid Freeper and a Christian. We need people such as you to counter the California leftscum who are fleeing the cesspool they created and then are trying to create the same cesspool here (out of ignorance and to be blunt stupidity).
