The ‘Fevered Insanity’ of the Media’s Selective Outrage (Jeffrey Lord)

As always, leave it to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to pithily assess the flood of media stories about Donald Trump Jr.’s 20-minute minute meeting with a Russian lawyer in June of 2016. Appearing on Fox’s My Story, hosted by Martha McCallum, Gingrich had a two word description for all the frenzied coverage: “fevered insanity.”

To which can only be added another two words: “selective outrage.”

The breathless reporting of this story revolves around the absolute certainty on the part of the media and angry Democrats who are still agog that Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump. There had to be a reason other than a bad candidate for the upset loss. So the excuse of choice is that somehow, someway, her loss is all the Russians’ fault.

“Collusion” is the word of the moment. And because Don Trump, Jr. said yes to this meeting thinking he was going to get some dirt on Hillary — which turned out to be not forthcoming — this is proof positive that Hillary was cheated. (And NBC has excitedly now reported that there was a one-time Soviet intelligence officer in the meeting as well.) After all, if an American presidential campaign is conniving with the Russians to win an election, this is self-evidently a huge story.

Really?

Over here at Newsmax in December of 2016, Michael Reagan, the son of President Ronald Reagan, told a story about someone who was conniving with the Russians to win a presidential election - and it wasn’t Don Trump, Jr. Here’s some of what Mike Reagan — no Trump fan — had to say.

As an oil exporter, why would the Russians prefer Trump to Hillary?

Trump is invigorating US oil production.

Hillary would have decimated it.

What level of IQ is required to “get it”?

50, 60, 75?

So the excuse of choice is that somehow, someway, her loss is all the Russians’ fault.

It *is* the Russians' fault. Hillary colluded with the Russians; she took over $100 million dollars in a pay-for-play scheme. The American people did not like that. So we elected Trump.

Collusion is what Hillary and the DNC did against Bernie. That should be the new mantra.

The Democrats had eight years of robbing the public treasuries.

They loved it.

They want it that way again.

And, they’re scared they’ll get caught and prosecuted for those eight years.

One question: At this point “what does it matter”....did it change anyone’s vote?

I want the millions to speak up: “they would have voted for HRC had they not been influenced by, you know, Russia!!!”

Getting dirt on Hillary is a bombshell, why?

Opposition research is a part of politics.

If Hillary had been a good candidate, she would have had nothing to fear from it.

Blaming Don Jr. for holding the meeting misses the point.

I wake up every day and count my lucky stars we are hearing this nonstop fevered insanity and the selective outrage because the alternative is unthinkable, HRC in the White House again with her finger on the treasury and her frog march of America towards the one world government meme..

Outlook is everything.

Trump is great.
