Jeff Sessions plans to announce criminal leak investigations in coming days: Report
Washington Examiner ^

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is pressing on with his job despite President Trump's public criticism of him, and plans to announce in coming days a number of criminal leak investigations, according to a report Tuesday night.

The Washington Post says Sessions is preparing to announce a series of leak probes related to recent news accounts publishing "sensitive intelligence information."

Earlier Tuesday, Trump said he is "disappointed" that Sessions hasn't been tougher on leaks from the intelligence community.

"I want the attorney general to be much tougher on the leaks from intelligence agencies, which are leaking like rarely have they ever leaked before at a very important level," Trump said during a press conference in the Rose Garden. "These are intelligence agencies. We cannot have that happen."

The comments were a continuation of Trump's week-long public criticism of Sessions, which have stoked speculation the president may fire his attorney general, or push him to resign.

Trump's criticisms about Sessions began last week, when the president told the New York Times he is disappointed that Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump has since publicly criticized the attorney general on Twitter, calling him "beleaguered" and questioning why Sessions hasn't investigated Hillary Clinton.

The Post reported Tuesday night that in a recent conversation, Sessions' chief of staff Jody Hunt told White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus that the attorney general has no intention of resigning.

Sessions continued his work on policy Tuesday, issuing new requirements to a Justice Department grant program so that so-called sanctuary cities that limit their role in helping enforce federal immigration law do not receive funding.

When it comes to Sessions, I’ll believe he’ll do something when I see it.

All he’s done so far (that we know of) is increase the WOD and ramp up Civil Asset Forfeitures.

Oh. And he recused himself from the Russian nonsense.

There is no "coming announcement." It's a media report that is speculating about it.

I stand by my original point that the DOJ isn't likely to be announcing simply that an investigation is ongoing. If there actually is an announcement by the DOJ, I'm sure it will have something to do with yesterday's arrest of the DNC's Pakistani IT guy at Dulles Airport as he was trying to flee the country.

President Trump has been providing cover for Sessions and the media ate it up.

Thank you President Trump.

Thank you Mr. Sessions.

——————————————————————————————Trump paints Sessions as ineffective while in reality Sessions has been diligently building towards a set of indictments starting with leakers, Awan and the Dems associated with him. Takes their eyes off the ball and maybe even goads them into publicly defending the very guy who’s about to take them down. Also a big FU to the NYT by using them as a tool to trick the dems. He feeds them obvious BS showing they are beneath his contempt.

If things play out according to this angle it will be truly delicious.

During and after the verbal abuse of Sessions by Trump. The left begins to love and protect Sessions including the Mediots. The GOPe gives Session their support and condemn Trump:

This allows Sessions to go on a unforeseen raiding/scalping party. Jeff fires Mueller and his left wing lawyers Then, he fires any remaining liberals in the FBI and DOJ. Next he brings charges against the Clintons, Podesta and DNC leaders claiming they were in bed with Mexico, Russia and the Ukrainians and led/allowed meddling in last year’s election. Then, Jeff goes after the ChiComs for meddling in our 2016 elections.

Next, he can start withholding federal $’s from any sanctuary city and state.

While the mediots and the Deep Staters go ballistic, Trump can say that Sessions acted on his own, but it was too late to reverse what he had done.

He will then say that Sessions will remain as AG until his replacement is approved quickly by the Senate.

Now, Trump can pick another AG to replace Sessions. His big club will be, “Approve my AG replacement or I will leave Sessions in charge! If that happens, none of you will be around in a year. He will investigate all of you. ‘You all know’ that Sessions is a bona fide crazy conservative from the Deep South. He hates all of you. So quickly approve my new AG!”

After President Trump’s replacement AG is approved by the Senate. Sessions retires and goes home to write his personal novel “I was an Attorney General”

Year later when Pence is president, Sessions releases that book telling, how he and Trump conned the Senate and the mediots into allowing/abetting Sessions to drain the swamp.

Best solution would be to move him to another position. National parks director maybe.

Trump also now has democrats in Congress defending Sessions when a few months ago they had him wearing a sheet and burning crosses.

To fake out you opponent you have to make the moves he is expecting you to make...

It seems that sessions does not have any instincts to do anything right on his own. It’s only because he’s being pressured by Trump.

Yes.

The media has now spent two-three days defending Sessions from his mean boss. The leaks have provided the media with ratings bait. The federal government has provided the blue cities with operating funds. Both are going bye-bye and how will they manage to smear Sessions, now?

They are forced now to report the Awan arrest, the DWS computer w/smashed hard drives...no matter who smashed them or when, it’s bad news.

I think I will start calling this the Swamp Twister Game. Watch the media contortions! Which way will they fall?

So much fun, finally.

In DC, talking about something is perceived as actually doing something.

Unlike the real world, where results are expected.

..DJT is like an old time hockey coach who calls out his players in the press for underperformance. I have no problem with this at all. The fate of the republic is at stake, and AG Sessions has been soft IMHO—should have chosen Rudy...

Does this mean the A.G. will finally close his solitaire game and do his job? Never mind be a hyper-aggressive slash and burn for law and order kinda guy like we need. Believe it when I see it.

“Shouldn’t be announcing leak investigations at all. Should just be doing them. “

Yes, any announcements should only be made when indictments have been returned and people are being put on trial.

Yes AC, the “announcement” will be that despite wearing a “monitoring device,” this a$$wipe has “managed” to flee the country. The only part that will be missing is that our LEO’s drove him to the airport and waited for his plane to leave for Pakistan.

I’d be happy if you are correct but I doubt it involves that Pakistani spy.

This guy would have been incredibly stupid to wire money to Pakistan from the US. I wonder if the thing is a cover for his cooperating from the getgo. Would be nice eh?

What irks me though is it took a non involved government person to find the discarded and destroyed discs. Would seem to me when you are investigating someone for stealing secrets, the first thing you do is get a search warrant and SEARCH their residents and business properties for clues, like computers, paper files and the like. It is not like they did not have probable cause.

Now we know that the Sessions DOJ has not investigated any leaks and will only start now.

No, we don't know that based on this announcement. Did you read something that specified whether he'd be discussing new or ongoing investigations?

It seemed obvious to me that this was theatre, though some of it made me uncomfortable. What could Sessions do without an FBI director?
