The Navy will investigate whether two US destroyers were hacked before they collided with merchant ships in a pair of recent crashes, according to a top Navy admiral.
"2 clarify Re: possibility of cyber intrusion or sabotage, no indications right now ... but review will consider all possibilities," tweeted Admiral John Richardson, referencing sweeping new investigations announced Monday into two recent accidents involving Naval warships in the Pacific.

Any of you ex-Navy Freepers think that a hack might be the cause?
“Dog ate my homework!”
“I was hacked!”
If hacking is the cause who would have done it? Western Pacific region....China?
Good idea to check it out anyhow.
Don’t be ridiculous. Every watch has I think has 5 lookouts and redundant systems to avoid collision. The problem is navigating in heavily traffic waters requires some decent seaman ship. These two fatal collision have one thing in common. they happened in heavily traffic choke points.

Got to think outside the box.
China, North Korea or Russia
All possibilities
All in 7 th Fleet out of Yokosuka?
What’s the capability of this hacking business.
Could weapons be launched by hacking? Ships’ steering controlled?
I’m a civi so I have no idea.
Hoping the answer is a HUGE no.
The military vessels have defenses for their GPS. I suspect the commercial vessels don’t.
Hacking is an 80% possibility.
The Navy needs to use GPS to verify actual navigation by the start, compass and clock.
Our own anti- war jackboots. When you think of the Anti-Americanism in Google and other tech companies, it isn’t a far stretch to know one of their fringe employees may have had a double shot of koolaid.
I certainly don’t. For the simple reason that these things happen enough to where human error is always found to be the issue. Occasionally, there is an engineering casualty that either precipitates or complicates things, but a well trained and disciplined crew can overcome those things.
Secondarily, let’s say someone found a way to hack some system (just pick any system) They would have to have a way to initiate the hacked system at just the right point to have an effect such as a collision. That would involve knowing a ships course and scheduled operations, and someone to initiate it in proximity to another ship. Doing it at the wrong time would tip the crew off something is wrong.
It is tin-foil conspiracy stuff. It doesn’t surprise me at all that the Navy would say they are looking at that. What the heck else can they say? That their leadership, training, and preparedness is so in the toilet they can’t steam without colliding with other vessels?
That would be the same as full out admitting they cannot fight.
Which at this time, I am questioning as well.
No. Not possible.
Queers on the bridge wrecked the ships in retribution for the ousted transvestites
Of course they were hacked. The USS McCain collision is like the 2nd plane hit on 9/11. Cannot be a another coincidence.
“Any of you ex-Navy Freepers think that a hack might be the cause?”....
Anything is possible but there is also a thing called human intervention which could override the proposed “hacking” theory. IMO, Certainly there has to be more to these crashes than some computer malfunction.
Good!!! :)

Nothing personal here, BuffaloJack, but that statement is out there.
Dr. Evil perhaps?
