National security adviser HR McMaster used a 1972 photo of Afghan women wearing miniskirts to help convince President Trump to stay the course in Afghanistan, according to a report on Tuesday.
McMaster showed the president a black-and-white photograph of three women walking down a Kabul street in miniskirts to convince him that Western culture had once thrived in Afghanistan and could again, the Washington Post reported.
The photo was among the arguments the presidents staff used to make the case that he should not pull troops from Afghanistan the site of Americas longest war, the newspaper said.
In a speech Monday evening at Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., Trump declared, We will fight to win in the war-torn country.
The decision was a U-turn for the president who had previously called for withdrawing US troops, writing on Twitter in January 2013 that the war keeps wasting our money rebuild the US!

Lay waste to those poppy fields, President Trump.
We have your back!
Bad decision.
What is victory? How are we to achieve it? What national interest is being served? How does this action help it?
Either fight to win or get the heck out.
I can relate to the story. STRATCOM Teheran 1972-1974
And the Washington Post knows this how? (rhetorical question)
Interesting time...back when there was some adult leadership in at least one country in that part of the world.
Western Culture one thrived in Afghanistan?
It once thrived in the West too. Now its under attack everywhere, especially in America.
We can’t convince our own leftists, statists, PC multi-cultis of the value of Western CHRISTIAN culture. I doubt we can bomb it into the Afghanis
If this anecdote is true, we are screwed. Islam everywhere is rushing away from modernity. If this article is true, McMaster is either a liar, or a naive.
Our national interest is keeping radical Islam out of this country. We either kill them over there or fight them in your back yard.
The picture is one of many that has made the rounds on Facebook and the internet as a part of a larger photo book that demonstrates how life used to be normal and somewhat Westernized in Afghanistan not too long ago. The headline suggests that all McMaster had to do was show Trump some chicks in mini skirts and he will send our soldiers off to war and I’m sure the left will grab onto this narrative in short order.

You should have listened to his speech.
Some details tip the enemy.
He was clear on changing the Rules of Engagement and fighting to win.
We’ve been there for 16 years for just that purpose. Please tell me how we’re going to do anything differently to achieve that objective, and please tell me what victory looks like an how e get there.
And why are we protecting Russia’s, Pakistan’s, and Iran’s flanks?
Kinda. Working Tech Control at the Comm Center and got a front row seat of Watergate lead-ups, especially when they sent CIA Director Helms to be the Ambassador. Who ever heard of Iran then?
How?
Yeah it was the pic.
Couldn’t possibly be the fact that Pakistan has been helping ISIS try to take control of Afghanistan.
Nope. It had to be the picture of miniskirted Afghan hotties.
“...What national interest ... How does this action help it?”
Prevent 9/11 #2. I’m pretty sure that would be in our national interest.
Also - the President made it clear that he is not about trying to establish a western style democracy in Afghanistan; the President clearly stated that the goal is for Afghanistan to govern itself in the manner that it chooses.
The story that “women in western clothes changed his mind” is Fake News. I call this Washington Post BS fake news.
While they’re still bring them in as refugees?!?! If it’s not them doing the killing it’s their American born kids. None of their strategy makes any sense.
Are you that naïve?
Afganistan only produces one thing of any value. I wonder just who actually benefits from the opium trade, and how much influence it buys them.
So we are sending our son’s to die in Afghanistan so girls there can wear mini-skirts? We will define victory and leave when they are wearing mini-skirts there?
Sounds perfectly rational to me.
Stupid.
