Houston is very low and is known as the 'Bayou City'. Originally named 'Allen's Landing.'
I lived there for 20 years and my sister lives there (Conroe) presently.

I remember the afternoon TS Allison started. Almost without expectation it just stopped and rained buckets. We just barely made it home that afternoon.
I guess I was busy with other things and just didn’t pay attention to the forecasts or something but I was not the only one surprised.

Breathlessly hyperbolic weather headlines detract from any useful information presented by the actual article.
(This is aimed at the “potentially catastrophic” headline writer.)

NautiNurse :" Heads up Texas and Louisiana for extended heavy rain, and potential Category 3 winds."
Weather Channel suggests Category 3 storm with 115 mph winds once it goes over warmer Gulf waters.
The Storm Surge is expected to be deadly with initial flooding. The storm is expected to meander, wander, and linger for several days continuing in the area for 3 1/2 days (thru Monday)
thus dumping a lot of rain in the lowlands and increasing the flooding potential.

Yeah, if this thing comes on shore and just sits there like they say it’s going to, this is going to get really messy.

Prayers up for all affected - after going through Katrina I wouldn’t wish a hurricane on anyone, especially one that’s expected to “laze” around for an extended period. Gonna be a lot of heart wrenching stress for a lot of folks and that’s before the economic/property/life tragedies.

Prepper Ping - Texas and Louisiana lowlanders - grab your 'go bag', gas up now
NautiNurse :" Heads up Texas and Louisiana for extended heavy rain, and potential Category 3 winds."
Initial Storm Surge is dangerous enough
but the long-term flooding potential appears even more serious
due to the projected wandering and lingering rainfall of several days from the initial storm.
Anticipated landfall has been revised to hit between 8 AM and 8 PM.
