Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with “a cargo trailer halfway in the building.” Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.

Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Say, are you coming to the TCMS thing in Oct?

Yep. We've had our cabin booked for months now. Our two youngest boys will be with us, and our daughter may even come with her boyfriend.

All of the kids have firearms they've been itching to shoot.

Here’s a question that maybe the locals can answer: Were exceptions to the shelter in place recommendation made for assisted living and/or skilled nursing facilities. If not, then there’s a really good chance folks there are at risk. Especially if the people running the facilities trusted their local officials.

Tropical Storm Harvey Discussion Number 29
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL092017
1000 AM CDT Sun Aug 27 2017

Harvey continues to meander over southeastern Texas, where it
is producing catastrophic and life-threatening flooding rainfall.
NWS radars show that bands of deep convection continue to develop
over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico and train over portions of
southeastern Texas, including the Houston/Galveston metropolitan
area. Rainfall amounts greater than 20-25 inches have already been
reported and flash flood emergencies and warnings have been issued
by local National Weather Service offices for a large portion of
southeastern Texas. Additional rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 inches
are expected over the next several days, and the NOAA Weather
Prediction Center is now forecasting isolated storm total amounts of
50 inches. These historic rainfall amounts will exacerbate the
already dire and life-threatening situation.

Surface observations of winds 30-35 kt within a band of convection
over the western Gulf of Mexico and along the coast of Texas support
an initial intensity of 35 kt. The latest track guidance show
Harvey moving slowly southeastward for the next 24 to 36 hours and
the center is likely to move very close to the coast, or even
offshore, between 24-48 hours. After that time, Harvey is expected
to begin a northward motion which should take it inland over eastern
Texas later in the period. Since a large portion of the circulation
is expected to remain over water during the next several days,
Harvey is maintained as a tropical storm through 72 hours. However,
the strongest winds are likely to occur over the Gulf waters.

All those car dealers that are exacerbating the auto bubble should donate cars.

Heavy rains here between Austin and Houston.

No doubt. The outermost bands are even covering Dallas County, though it's not producing much rain.

Hope you and yours are safe and sound.

My first reaction was horror but the patients don’t appear to be very alarmed. I think it’s likely a hoax.

Folks should run the VINs on used cars before purchasing. :-)

On the nursing home/skilled nursing thing, even if not flooded, if power/water/sewer goes for facilities like those, caring for residents will be very problematic.

I’m sitting right in the middle of it. Scares the hell out of me, too. Just keep us in your prayers.

Absolutely. I'm praying this thing exhausts itself and peters out. They always weaken after coming ashore.

Stay safe.

Blow the breakers or fuses in the main distribution panel of the building.

As soon as the water got high enough to start hitting the electrical outlets everything would short out.

txhurl identified the most obvious reason for hoax--the electricity is still on with all of that water--and everyone is alive.

It is truly irresponsible to post Twitter and Facebook posts which have not been vetted--especially when people are looking for accurate info. The photo should be removed from the thread.

Caww, my eyes are so bad. I see some elderly people gathered in what looks like a lounge or something. I imagine they're sheltering from the storm. Is there some disturbing detail my eyes are missing?
