Trump is talking Kim's language. No previous president has accomplished squat with this guy, because no previous president has understood how to talk to him. Trump's bombast is fully understood by Kim as a signal, wheras the usual diplomatic pablum is understood correctly as weakness and willingness to acquiesce and accommodate if one only holds out long enough.

No one cares about NK. The situation is unresolvable in the foreseeable future and will probably be in the same standoff we have now in ten years. That’s not why Trump was elected. He was elected because he promised to get tough on immigration.
