"I personally dont believe the Anthem is ever the time to make any type of protest," the Super Bowl-winning QB says.
Ben Roethlisberger on Monday afternoon released a statement saying he regretted his Pittsburgh Steelers boycotting the national anthem on Sunday.
The NFL team was the first of three to not come out for the pregame ritual.
"I was unable to sleep last night and want to share my thoughts and feelings on our teams decision to remain in the tunnel for the National Anthem yesterday," the Super Bowl-winning QB said in a statement. "The idea was to be unified as a team when so much attention is paid to things dividing our country, but I wish we approached it differently. We did not want to appear divided on the sideline with some standing and some kneeling or sitting.
He continued, "As a team, it was not a protest of the flag or the Anthem. I personally dont believe the Anthem is ever the time to make any type of protest. For me, and many others on my team and around the league, it is a tribute to those who commit to serve and protect our country, current and past, especially the ones that made the ultimate sacrifice."
Steelers' lineman Alejandro Villanueva, a former Army Ranger, stood an the entrance of the tunnel for the anthem. His jersey has been the top seller since that moment, according to Fanatics. The NFL shop also moved his jersey to the top spot on the team store page.

Roethlisberger is a coward who runs whichever way the wind is blowing at the moment.

Who wants to be unified with people who hate America? Sweeping it under the rug is just cowardice.
Regrets, Ive had a few. But then again, too few to mention.
But the cowardly Roethlisberger did mention his pathetic regret. The only damned thing he regrets is the blowback!
We can stop reading right here.
Dear Mister Roethlisberger:
You can't have this two ways, and you can't hide in the middle.
Either you are an American, grateful to live in this wonderful Country; or, you are an anti-American, who refuses to stand, respectfully (if not full of pride), facing our American Flag at the presentation of our National Anthem.
You made the decision. If there is a "smidgeon" of conscience within you, then you get to live with the forever fact that you cowered from Old Glory, then lied about why.
You can never, ever be like me, btw, a Veteran who stands at attention and salutes proudly whenever "The Star Spangled Banner" is played.
MAJOR pressure is being applied behind the scenes. If you think the left is just going to give up on this, you are sorely mistaken.
Ben chose to lay down with anti-American thugs. Now his fleas itch.
Too late. You blew it.
You and your "team" had their chance to take a stand that was honorable and honored the country, and not the tiny dysfunctional elements within it. You, and your "team" failed.
You defined yourself when you cowered.
For all of the Bronco fans out there, here is a reminder that the fall colors should be peaking in the mountains this week and next. Nice weekend for a drive. Just sayin.
Screw the players, teams (except the Cowboys) and league. We need to go for the sponsors. I got a decent enough response from Budweiser today. They emphasized how they support the military and that the national anthem was very important to them as well. They stated that they understood my concerns and would pass them on to the NFL. I think our voices will be heard by the jerks in football this way.
Old Ben had the chance to stand with a fellow teammate and decorated
Army Ranger. He chose to hide with the thugs in the locker room.
Villanueva protects his blindside. Villanueva cowered today. Look for the same from little Ben in the near future.
re: We did not want to appear divided on the sideline with some standing and some kneeling or sitting.
So this jerkwad sided with those who would not stand for the national anthem and our flag. We get that loud and clear.

Rapist says what?

As I was reading the article I was thinking about what word to describe. . .you already did it.
Must have watched the You Tube of his shirt being burned.
