John Kelly is blocking a pro-Russia congressman from talking to Trump
Business Insider ^ | October 3, 2017 | Joe Perticone

WASHINGTON — California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican known for his fondness of the Russian government and ties to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, said he is unable to even speak to President Donald Trump due to barriers put in place by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Rohrabacher told Business Insider on Tuesday that Kelly and "a coalition of people in the White House" are preventing him from having a conversation with Trump that would entail clearing Assange and the Russian government from allegations they meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

But Rohrabacher is unconvinced. Last month during a phone call with Kelly, Rohrabacherrequested a pardon of Assange in exchange for evidence that would clear the fugitive's name.

Weeks later, he is still unable to speak directly with Trump, but said that "there are others involved who are talking to Trump" about Assange.

Rohrabacher added that he is imploring a similar strategy in talking to Assange, who currently lives in asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.  "I have not spoken to [Assange] directly, but we're going through a period of time where a lot's getting done one person removed in a lot of different ways," he said.

According to Rohrabacher, the end arounds are necessary because Trump's top advisors are preventing him from reaching the president.

"The White House staff and other top people in the administration are trying to protect the president from himself," Rohrabacher said. "That's what they think and in fact they are usurping his authority to make decisions — the important decisions — himself."

"The White House staff and other top people in the administration are trying to protect the president from himself," Rohrabacher said. "That's what they think and in fact they are usurping his authority to make decisions — the important decisions — himself."

This is disgraceful. This could be info that would clear Trump in the Russia investigation and expose it, and Kelly won't permit Trump to meet with Rohrabacher?

This is a Congressman saying this who is trying to help Trump - not a media outlet, but this dovetails with media reports from other outlets like Axios, Politico, etc. that have reported this is going on. You also have conservatives with sources like Roger Stone that are saying this. John Bolton said Trump had told him he could visit whenever he wanted, and he was no longer able to meet Trump after Kelly took over. He put out a public plea in Politico hoping Trump would see the article.

Why is Trump allowing this? McMaster purged the NSC of Trump supporters, and we have people like Bannon, Gorka, and Schiller gone. Kelly also just put Peter Navarro (one of the few original allies left) under Gary Cohn.

(CNN)One of President Donald Trump's last standing nationalist trade advisers is getting pushed further from the Oval Office after chief of staff John Kelly's latest move to restructure the West Wing. Kelly decided Tuesday to make the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy -- run by National Trade Council Director Peter Navarro -- part of the National Economic Council, leaving Navarro to report to the council's director Gary Cohn, whom Navarro has repeatedly feuded with over trade issues.

The move is likely to further reduce the influence of the President's top White House adviser on trade issues. Navarro has been one of the biggest advocates and implementers of Trump's hardline trade rhetoric, but has seen his access to the President reduced to almost none in the months since Kelly became chief of staff.

Kelly had not targeted Navarro specifically, but has sought to limit access to the President and create a more structured system for gaining entry to the Oval Office.

Kelly's decision sounded alarm bells among some of Trump's allies outside the White House who share his nationalist trade views. They worry that the decision is the latest signal that aggressive trade policies have fallen within the priority list, particularly since the ouster of White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. Bannon's departure has left Cohn, who has pushed back against many of the President's hardline trade proposals, and other foreign policy officials who support free trade, with more influence.

Gorka has predicted that Trump will realize a lot of his staff aren't people that support what he ran on, and he'll do a staff change around Christmas. I don't foresee that happening, but I don't like seeing Trump's most ardent supporters forced out or hearing that Kelly is blocking his access to someone who could shine light on this Russia investigation.

I don’t use twitter, but if I did, I would tweet this to Trump.

Rohrabacher is my Congressman. After I heard him discussing this on Hannity several times about a month ago, I asked him if he had another way to get the info to POTUS. It looks like he is trying.

The unanswered question: Why won't Kelly let Rohrabacher have a meeting with the President?

Good grief, Business Insider has less credibility than Pravda did in the old Soviet Union.

Maybe if he hadn’t traveled there with Chuck Johnson, I have a feeling they’re finally creating a troll free zone in the White House. They have enough bad press, they don’t need to feed the media.

I think this is all B.S. The Congressman can probably reach Donald Trump simply by calling the landline at one of his golf courses.

Can he get someone that can contact Don Jr. or Eric? They would tell their father.

Yes men are less acceptable for our side than any other.

Trump needs to hear unfiltered information.

I would meet him in the wee hours of the night/morning or is Kelly camped out at the door?

I don't know. He didn't go into any detail in the reply. He just said he was trying alternative means.

Like I said, if I had twitter I would tweet this to POTUS, and yes Don Jr. & Eric.

I have asked the same question on the whitehouse.gov e-mail contact form, but If Kelly is blocking stuff, I would imagine the e-mails don't get through either. Plus, I'm sure Trump is too busy to read them all, or any of them.

This is a glaring error by Trump. This is a head shot to the lie about the Russian hacking. It is irrefutable evidence. Trump failure to take this on leaves this goofy Muller with a job based on a lie. Why would he not at least look at the evidence? He is getting deep state advice from Kelly here.

Rohrabacher —can— get word to President Trump.

One tweet at a time.

Rorhbacher has been around for a long time.

Have never heard him called “fond of Russia”.

That’s where anyone who wants to get past this crappie needs to do. Ivanka and Jared are a disaster, but his sons seem even better than him and would pass on info or talk to their father. Kelly can’t keep them away.
