George W. Bush just laid a major smackdown on Trumpism
CNN Politics ^ | 10/19/2017 | Chris Cillizza

(CNN)George W. Bush doesn't talk much about politics in public. Which makes the speech he gave Thursday in New York City -- a point-by-point rejection of Trumpism -- all the more important and noteworthy. The 43rd president of the United States -- and the last Republican to hold the office before Donald Trump -- didn't mention the 45th president by name in his speech at the George W. Bush Institute. But Trump -- and his views -- were ever-present in the former President's address.

Bush condemned "nationalism distorted into nativism." He derided "discourse degraded by casual cruelty." He acknowledged that "our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication." And, most importantly, Bush said that "bigotry seems emboldened."

Interestingly, I had lost respect for Bush long before Trump came on the scene. Trump became the solution to many mistakes led by the Bush administration. Principle among which he spent like a drunken sailor (without the intention to demean sailors).

When Trump got here, I became aware that the global philosophy was damaging to our middle class. A group that deserves our respect, not the failure that was prescribed by Obama and Hillary. Trump set out to fix this, and I like many was skeptical that he could win, but hoped for him anyway.

He acknowledged that "our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication."

You mean more conspiratorial than saying you knew about 9/11 ahead of time but chose to do nothing about it?

You mean more outright fabrication than a fake dossier?

So now the fake news media think W is brilliant, a real genius! Now they apparently think he’s just wonderful!

These are same @sses who relentlessly called him stupid, dumb, a racist, an idiot, incompetent, a drunk, a smirking chimp, illiterate, uninformed, a coke snorter and draft dodger.

Shut up W, just shut up and go back to your stupid mediocre painting. You’re acting like Hillary now.

I have to say, though I kind of liked him at the time, GWB was unquestionably one of our worst presidents.

I look at that picture and see the three architects of 24 years of taking apart America.

When the Obama administration was taking bribes to give American uranium to the Soviet Union to help their nuclear program, Bush said nothing.

When the Obama administration was creating, funding and arming ISIS, Bush said nothing.

When the Obama administration was encouraging criminal activity and refusing to enforce the law, Bush said nothing.

When Clinton and Obama were doing arms deals with radical terrorists that caused our embassy to be overrun and our ambassador and others killed Bush said nothing.

When the Obama administration was illegally giving billions of dollars to help Iran finance terrorism and acquire nuclear weapons, Bush said nothing.

When the Obama administration was giving millions of tax dollars to Planned Parenthood to kill unborn babies and sell their body parts, Bush said nothing.

When the Clinton Foundation was accepting bribes from foreign countries and compromising the U.S., Bush said nothing.

Now Bush dishonestly and publicly attacks president Trump.

Don’t ever tell me about how classy Bush supposedly is.

First I read where the story originates. In this case it’s CNN. It’s not worth my time.

“I have to say, though I kind of liked him at the time, GWB was unquestionably one of our worst presidents.”

Only serves to show just how many political $hit Sandwiches we’ve had forced down our throats in our lifetime. I actually worried that Boosh might not get elected both times, but then you have to look at the double-decker $hit sandwiches he was running against for context. Gore and Kerry were at possibly triple-deckers. But also you have to look at the GOPe. Sarah Palin is the ONLY one we’ve had since Reagan who wasn’t a $hit sandwich. Dole, McCain, Romney, et al. were all “offerings” from the sewage treatment plant.

Chrissie SizzleLean thinks this squib from the Shrub is going to hurt Pres. Trump. Note his love of macho language like “smackdown”. In your dreams, C.S.

I supported GWB for years simply because I thought his enemies were far worse. I was wrong to do so.

Who cares?

He was so bad a President the GOP lost Congress on his watch.

Iraq, the stock market tanking and the economy in shambles.

GW needs to STFU and go away. No one wants his advice about the future.

Trump knows what he is doing and GW had no clue on how strengthen the country.

He only reminded us how no one liked him and people still want nothing to do with him.

This speech isn’t going bring people back to the side of the GOP establishment the Bush family represents.

Enough already!

Just highlights the fact the Jeb is even further away from the WH.

They left called Bush a racist, said he was Hitler, sending American boys to die. Now they love him, because he hates Trump.

And guess what, after Trump, they will hate Pence like a three headed Satan. They are beginning to attack him already, and soon it will be all the anti-Pence hysteria, all the time.

It is very predictable.

Ahh, that’s right, they called him a chimp.

Bring back the videos of Keith Olbermann, foaming at the mouth. Day in and day out of visceral hatred.

Now they are friends.

So making American great again is fabricated into “bigotry,” which nullifies true bigotry.

And he never said a word about Obama’s attempted destruction of this country. I don’t know what to conclude other than Bush must be as anti-American as Obama.
