McCain’s slam at Trump over draft deferment

Sen. John McCain has taken an obvious, strong, personal dislike of President Trump.

The most recent sign of this personal spat came to light in the October 22 online editions of FNC, the NY Post, and many other periodicals, when Sen. McCain called Trump to task for using bone spurs to evade military service during the Vietnam War.

Sen. John McCain took some veiled shots at President Trump over the weekend — slamming high income draft dodgers like himself for using their wealth to avoid serving in the Vietnam War.

“One aspect of the conflict, by the way, that I will never ever countenance is that we drafted the lowest income level of America and the highest income level found a doctor that would say that they had a bone spur,” the Arizona lawmaker told C-SPAN3 in an interview that aired Sunday.

Absent Admiral Granddaddy and Admiral Daddy, McLame would be the overnight manager of a third-rate motel in Flagstaff.

So much urine has been dedicated to the Songbirds final resting place that the graveyard will need to install astro turf because grass will NEVER grow on that grave.

“Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”

Boswell tells us that Samuel Johnson made this famous pronouncement that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel on the evening of April 7, 1775. He doesn’t provide any context for how the remark arose, so we don’t really know for sure what was on Johnson’s mind at the time.

However, Boswell assures us that Johnson was not indicting patriotism in general, only false patriotism. I know the story behind it, but explaining it is too much work.
Suffice to say, if Juan’s patently bogus anti-Trump rhetoric won’t fly here, it won’t fly anywhere. A lot like McQueeg.

Senator John ‘wetstart” McCain has killed more American servicemen than DJT could have ever done, before he became President!

“wetstart Johnny” killed, and injured fellow naval personnel, and damaged the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, while it was on station in the waters off Vietnam. That could be “misunderstood” as an act of sabotage or treason, which i “misunderstand” that to be!!

(I remember the 1960s) You're spot-on with your recollections. The VietNam War tore us apart, after growing up in the peace and prosperity that followed WW2, through the Eisenhower Administration. The Korean War wasn't as much on the radar, and at that point the nation accepted it as necessary to stop communism, and the DMZ a way to end fighting.

Eisenhower warned the nation about the Military Industrial Complex. We didn't understand why VietNam was important to us, but trust in the government was still high. In those times, there was a kind of unofficial code about what was acceptable avoidance of the war. Using and embracing valid deferments was considered acceptable. Signing up for some other military program was considered okay. College deferments were considered okay, as long as they ended after four or five years to finish college.

What wasn't okay is when it wasn't fair. There's some question if either McCain or GWB were qualified for the programs they entered. With McCain, there's another question he doesn't bring up. He graduated from Annapolis in 1958. At that point there was no expectation that he'd end up in an unpopular war, so we don't know what he would've done if he faced the dilemma those younger people faced. At that time, it was considered bad form to take a pilot-training or Academy slot from more qualified candidates.

The war didn't end until the lottery system came to be and everyone's friends and loved ones had the same risk of being drafted.

McCain criticizing President Trump but not Romney, Gore, Clinton and younger pols (Ryan, Obama, Cruz, Rubio, etc etc) for not choosing to serve shows how off-the-rails Senator McCain is.

Just one quibble, algore only went to Vietnam because daddy made him, would have been bad for future politics if he didn’t. Algore went as a journalist, protected by real soldiers every second he was there.

His daughter had an “in” for the view. Besides only 3 or 4 people saw it. ;-) Or will see it. I don’t even know if it happened or not. Oh, and I don’t care.

Document

Donald Trump’s Selective Service Records (line 10/580, Ctrl+ to enlarge):

Trump had four education deferments and the medical deferment. It was bone spurs in one of his heels that ended his qualification for military service. Although not considered serious, bone spurs in the heel could have a serious problem for one in recruit training or the battlefield. Imagine having to be airlifted out of the battlefield because of a foot swollen up because of a bone spur. McCain would have spilled the beans to his Hotel Hanoi captors from one rap of the wood paddle on his bone spur. In fact, didn't McCain spill the beans?

He is a bitter, hate filled old man. He hates his party and sold his country out to the highest bidder the Chamber of Crony Commerce. Considering the probable tons of evidence of McIsanes collaboration he might want to keep his mouth shut.
Eventually the other POW’s are going to talk about Songbird’s stay in Hanoi.

“Where is Trump’s counterpoint that McStupid used taxpayer money to get a copy of the fake Russian/Democrat dossier on Trump.”

You think McCain paid to “get a copy” of the fake dossier? I think McCain paid to have it created.

Yes; of course he did.

Tried to find any comments by McLame on Bill Clinton’s draft dodging scandal, and of course, came up empty.
