Flake's exit from Senate race opens door for new challenger
Fox Business News ^ | 10/24/2017 | Brian Swartz

As Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) made his stunning announcement on Tuesday that he will be retiring from the Senate, Jay Heiler, a Treasurer of the Arizona Board of Regents, made it clear that he’s leaning toward running for the soon-to-be-vacant congressional seat and that he recently spoke with former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon about jumping into the 2018 midterm election battle.

Heiler told FOX Business in an interview that Flake’s resignation has “sped up” his timeline on when he will make his announcement and that he’s likely to run for the seat that fellow Republican Dr. Kelli Ward is pursuing. “It would be fair to say that I’ve been leaning toward running all along,” Heiler said.

Heiler also said that he spoke with Bannon last week as he got set to endorse Ward, who up until Tuesday was Flake’s main Republican challenger. But Heiler suggested that the conservative firebrand and executive chairman of Breitbart News may have been hesitant to initially support Ward.

“He said that he did not intend that day to endorse Kelli Ward but he did intend to attend her event. He did not use those words (endorse) based on the coverage I’ve seen and the whole video of those remarks. However, as I told him that day, the attendance that day was billed as his endorsement,” Heiler said.

That is he. I really hope he enters the race.

Thanks

I Think this means one thing... The writing is on the wall, He KNOWS he cant win and does not want to go out a loser. Incumbants are going to be on the short list... just hope they are replaced by real conservatives!

I just heard her on Martha McCallum tonight. She’s obviously a smart, very successful woman who is likable and supports Trump’s agenda. She has a grassroots support that was there when she was running vs. McCain which has only grown. I was thrilled when she announced she would primary Jeff Flake. She was killing it in the polls against him, and that’s why he dropped out. I think the grassroots are with her. I’d like to see Trump endorse her as she has stuck up for him while has been attacked by so many.

Looks like the Cheap Labor Express found a replacement for Flake.

I get the feeling Trump’s in the GOPe mentality that only they can win. First stupid thing I’ve seen Trump do. Doesn’t he understand that none of the old guard thought he could win either?

Looks bad though that Mississippi Senator, Roger Wicker, is kissing up to Trump big time though he wants to keep the filibuster. And Trump just endorsed him. His opponent could be State Sen. Chris McDaniel who had victory stolen by GOPe in 2014.

It’s one of two things. If it’s a Trump person, it would be Jeff DeWitt. If it’s a McCain/Flake person it’s going to be Robert Graham. I like Jeff DeWitt, but I dont’ like the way they are doing this.

DeWitt would have been great, if he had entered the race months ago. He had a chance and he didn’t.

Trump good, but as long as Bannon with her, she’s set.

Hildy, help me understand...the election is not until fall of 2018...and it’s too late?

I thought there would be plenty of time even if decisions were made after the new year.

The filing deadline for the primary is May 30, 2018, the primary itself is August 28, 2018.

“As I predicted hours ago...the GOPe, which in AZ is led by the open-borders Mormon church leadership, will put forward a fake “conservative,” likely businessman, to defeat Ward, which he likely will. This is what the LDS did by ousting former Senate President Russell Pearce, defeating him with SkyMall founder Bob Worsely. The traitorous LDS must not be underestimated. They are also behind Judge Murray Snow (a Mormon who spent 2 years in Mexico) and his railroading of Sheriff Joe Arpaio on “racial profiling” charges.”

This is just so much B.S. Russell Pearce, who you reference, is LDS himself. Flake’s last challenger was Will Cardon, also LDS. The state campaign manager for Trump was Thayer Vosheer, who is LDS. The person who provided free office space to Trump and a warehouse in Arizona to distribute his campaign materials was LDS.

Some LDS including unpaid leadership are open borders, but to paint the LDS Community with a brush that they arel open borders is unfair. The leadership will make no declaration of such a thing at all.

On another matter, Kelly Ward is a flawed candidate. I personally offered her free office space for her campaign four times and never got a response. In her last campaign, she sat back and let McCain call her “Chemtrail Kelly” and did nothing.

Doesn’t that mean we still have time to think about other possibilities?

like Jeff DeWit. Trump’s Arizona campaign manager.

Perhaps DeWit will get named to McCain's seat when that vile troll croaks.

The bottom line is that DeWitt did not challenge McCain and did not invest years of effort holding McCain, a well known incumbent to 50% of the primary vote. Kelli did. Now she stepped up four months ago and said she would challenge Flake and give us real conservative representation and we have donated and supported that effort. SHE crippled Flake. She has earned our continued support -- this isn't the time to get all "McConnelled" and take off like dogs distracted by squirrels.

Kelli Ward was praised by President Trump in a tweet a few months.

I hope Preident Trump stays with her and does not go with this Republican Establishment front guy.

Other possibilities can run in other races. Don’t fail to continue to support your front runners by letting media distract you.

We aren’t dogs that have to chase every squirrel that pops up.

Dr, Kelli Ward has invested in us, lets invest in her.
