SEATTLE — Only 10 active Houston Texans players stood for the national anthem with the rest of the team kneeling down.
The Texans had indicated there would be some type of protest following comments by owner Bob McNair. McNair has issued two apologies and is attempting to explain his comments after a story in ESPN The Magazine this week revealed that he said "we can't have the inmates running the prison" during a meeting of NFL owners about players who protest by kneeling during the national anthem.
There were reports the Texans would consider staying in the locker room for the anthem, but the entire team took the field about 10 minutes before kickoff. When the anthem started more than half the active roster took a knee.
The majority of Seattle's defensive line continued to sit as it has for most of the season.
If the comment was during a closed meeting of owners, who leaked it.
Would it be better if he said “asylum” (the actual idiom) instead of “prison”?
Maybe if they spent as much time worrying about football as they do kneeling, they wouldn’t be 0-8...

Why do they even bother to play the game? They could just sell tickets to watch the National Antham to see what they are kneeling over each week. There are still probably a few NFL player hero worshippers who would buy tickets or watch it on TV.

I wonder if he’ll save a ton of money on next years’ contract negotiations? If he joined with a few other owners to punish these nitwits, by releasing and giving them free agency, they could get a whole bunch of fresh players.
Sure, they wouldn’t have a great team for a few years, but if they weren’t doing so great for the last few years, why worry?
Prison riot held at the stadium. I can’t wait for them to start dropping their drawers and bending over during the National Anthem.

Was at a college game recently. Linemen with guts hanging over their belts. This isn’t healthy, and it isn’t athletics. Institute a strict percent body fat limit to football, and the game changes completely - for the better.

I read recently there is a huge difference between ticket attendance and turnstyle attendance.
The empty stands are a visual indicator of turnstyle attendance. And usually turnstyle attendance isn’t listed.
Ticket attendance are tickets that have been purchased, and these are the numbers which usually show up in charts such as listed in your link. But ticket attendance is not turnstyle attendance.
