Is it possible to imagine a world without carbon-spewing gasoline-powered cars and trucks? California should join the effort and move toward banning sales of new carbon-emitting vehicles as soon as is practical. And maybe even a little sooner.
It has become clear that the free market is not working fast enough to wean us from our dependence on fossils fuels to power our cars and trucks, which account for more than 10% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
The national movements to end sales of gas-powered engines are in response to the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius over pre-industrial levels, a worldwide pledge that our climate-change-denying president has reneged on as a bad deal.
It will not be an easy, and likely not a cheap, transition. But the dangers and costs of sitting here in idle are too high to ignore. Were already seeing the costs of larger and stronger hurricanes. Rising seas will destroy low-lying developed areas including naval bases and ports along the nations coastlines. The Trump administration cant be counted on to do anything, but California can join the rest of the worlds progressive leaders in tackling this problem. The risks, if the world fails to take bold steps, veer into the unimaginable.

Braking
Same is true of driverless cars. Unbelievably, some Freepers actually support these totalitarian schemes.
They’ve already managed to outlaw certain toilets, lightbulbs, ac units, analog tv broadcasts, and dishwasher detergents...
They will take combustible engines from private hands.
For your own good. < / sarc>
These are called BUSSES.
Busses are like regular elevators.
Driverless cars would be similar to pater noster ones.
The NASCAR races in CA should be interesting ie; 1 hour pit stops to “refuel.”
Hardened crackheads must be lining up at the LA times building in the hopes the LA Times editorial board will share some the next-level shiite they must be smoking over there.
My environmental plan, not a single tree more should get chopped down to print this birdcage liner.
And yet we burn food, corn, for fuel, which they do apparently love.
And burning corn leads to both an increase in the price of other foods, meat especially.
And ethanol production uses huge amounts of water, also depleting that resource.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Liberalism.
Also:
Watch for the big push for electric, self driving, ride share golf carts for travel. (((Theyll))) push this even harder now that The Trucks Of Peace have been used in theUSA.
Under the guises of alleviating traffic, environmental protection and yes, security, another facet of population control will be hoisted upon us.
The price of US corn is at or below cost of production. How much cheaper do you think it could get?
I wonder how many vehicles the owners of the LAT have....?
Then why has the cost of meats increased so much? Everything Ive seen and read attributes it to increased corn prices.
Using corn is bulls**t; a gift to big agra. Pretty much any plant can be used for ethanol production. But theres no profit in using junk plants and trees.
So you see and read wrong. Not my problem.
Ok Farmer Ted. Thats why my biggest client is involved in the ethanol industry and Thanks God everyday for corn.
Guess the checks I receive from them are wrong too.
Most profit from ethanol comes from selling distiller’s grains as animal food.
Thats one avenue.
“Using corn is bulls**t; a gift to big agra. Pretty much any plant can be used for ethanol production. But theres no profit in using junk plants and trees.”
YUP....FACT.
The nightmare of foisting puny electric cars on an unreceptive population continues.
Global Warming on Free Republic here, here and here
I absolutely agree. If they believe fossil fuels are killing the planet, they need to live up to their convictions and not have their lives facilitated by the sane among us. Our sanity should not enable their lives and their ability to be self-righteous and look down upon us, their betters.
I guess all the Mexican guys who Home deliver the LA Times every morning are driving Electric Cars and Trucks.
