The world is in the crucial third phase of a 30-year war to combat global warming, and we can still win. The outcome will depend on this current phase and our ability to invest dramatically more money in clean and green energy quickly, thereby developing a new era of climate infrastructure. Success will depend on our capacity to invest sufficient institutional money for profit, and there's growing reason to be optimistic. The first two phases of the war have been won. Progress is being made on the third phase, but much more needs to be done.
Phase One was led by the scientists, who conducted the research demonstrating that man-made changes to the environment could be catastrophic.
With the science clear, the stage was set for Phase Two and its focus on public awareness, advocacy, and policy change. Battles ensued over state renewable energy standards, federal fuel efficiency standards, clean energy tax credits, and trade agreements that include climate change language.
Phase Two culminated in the Paris Climate Accord, embraced by 195 nations (all but Nicaragua and Syria), and launched the current Phase Three with its focus on putting money to work to create a new era of climate infrastructure.
The world needs investments in climate infrastructure – including clean energy, water, and waste-to-value – of $1 trillion per year to keep temperature rise under two degrees, according to many experts.
Phase Three in the climate war is well underway, but we must expand the financial commitments to it in every way possible as quickly as possible. Now is the time. We cannot wait.

2. Policy wonks leveraged this speculation in numerous money for special interest schemes.
3. Now we demand trillions of dollars for the policies that we want (and which conveniently require the money flow through the hands of the corrupt politicians that we support).
