Gillespie +3 in new VA poll

Republican Ed Gillespie is now narrowly leading the Virginia gubernatorial race by 3 points, according to a new poll, just three days before Tuesday's election.

The new poll of likely Virginia voters by Republican firm Optimus/Firehouse Strategies over Wednesday and Thursday shows Gillespie leading his Democratic opponent Ralph Northam by 40.4 percent to 37.4 percent. His lead is just outside the poll's margin of error.

Recent polls have suggested a late-game comeback for Gillespie, who trailed Northam by a small margin for recent months of the race, with a Friday poll showing the two locked in a dead heat at 47 percent apiece.

However, Northam is predicted to win by a 1.5 point margin if voter turnout mirrors 2016 levels, the poll said, citing "volatile" party composition. The poll used a model based on 2013 voter turnout to predict a Gillespie win.

An average of major polls still shows Northam with a slight lead of 1.2 points, which marks a steep decline over recent weeks from averages favoring the Democrat by over 3 points.

The contentious Virginia election has invited the support of national political figures such as former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, each stumping and fundraising for their party's nominees.

Agree, either way — red or blue. :^)

I like to think Trump - Pence actually won Virginia and Dem voter fraud pulled her sorry self to ‘victory.’ The two Senators narrowly won, as well - mostly because of John Warner working against a GOP victory.

A RINO victory is not really a victory. Nothing to celebrate.

“A RINO victory is not really a victory. Nothing to celebrate.”

In this case, it is a MASSIVE VICTORY, for the reasons that you already know.

Seeing Freepers go ga ga over this RINO Globalist POS makes me sick. I guess Free Traitors™ just don’t give a damn.

I don’t see how an Amnesty pimp, globalist GOPe Free Traitor™ winning is a good thing. I am not feeling it. I’ll be sitting this one out. Especially since you like him.

As someone who spends most of his time, your comments are spot-on.

Ed isn’t Mr. Charisma, but he knows how to run a very disciplined campaign. Did the same thing in the 2014 Senate race. Everyone wrote him off; Gillespie kept working and came within a cat’s whisker of beating Mark Warner. Meanwhile, Northam has run a terrible race; he’s willing to work with Trump or anti-Trump, depending on which ad you watch. His minions airbrushed the African-American candidate from a brochure to appease the pro-union crowd. And the pick-up truck ad was the icing on the cake.

I knew Northam was in trouble when he imported Barry Zero to campaign for him in Richmond. If you need that kind of support in a blue city late in a race, you’re in trouble. And Ralph is.

you are so right. I haven’t answered the phone for two weeks. But I contributed and, by golly, I cannot wait to vote for ED on Tuesday.

He is no Trump, but look at the opposition. They will not win with any help from me.

Hey Mom, the first time I heard “Hokie” I was hysterical, I love it.

No one here (other than a few NeverTrumpers) gives a CRAP about Gillespie...all we want is for the Democrat Party to be DESTROYED, so that Trump can get his agenda through, hopefully starting in 2019.

We do that by WINNING critical elections, not by staying home, whining, and telling the world that we want the Democrat to ‘teach the GOP a lesson’.

“I’ll be sitting this one out. Especially since you like him.”

Something tells me that JR wants him to win also. Shall I ask him? Would that be enough? Or do you need Reagan cloned before you vote GOP again?

-Corey Stewart has been actively campaigning for him and DJT has endorsed. Politics makes strange bedfellows.

Not strange at all; it is natural that conservatives and Republicans support Gillespie over Democrat Northam. It is the rational choice.

I suspect it has much less to do with Gillespie than it does with Northam. What an idiot mistake that ad was.

Attack the candidate, never the voters.

In addition to pissing off Republicans, I'm sure it depressed enthusiasm for some Democrats.

"Hey, I'm a Democrat, but my parents are Republicans, and Northam is saying my Daddy would run down children with a truck? I'm sitting this one out."

The VA isn’t going to help get Trumps agenda thru, especially Gellispe the RINO.

The article says that Northam will win if the numbers are like 2016. I doubt highly that will be the case. I would say at least 25 percent less voters than last year. I guess I could be wrong but this is an off off year. And although the election was heated and some would say exciting. I can’t see the casual voter going to vote on Tuesday. I could be wrong.

Yep even a RINO Gillespie needs to win this race. If he were the Senate candidate, I wouldn’t be thrilled at all. But having a RINO for a Governor as long as he is in charge of gerrymandering and ensures GOP keeps all the house seats, that is all I care about. He can only run for 4 years and that is it anyway.

“A RINO victory is not really a victory. Nothing to celebrate.”

1 word.....gerrymandering. We must control it and it is that time of year and it should be a Republican to control it in 2020.....that is the ONLY reason for celebrating but it is a good one.
