The woman who posted a photo of herself giving the middle finger to President Donald Trump’s motorcade to social media has been fired from her job, The Huffington Post reports.

As Trump returned from the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., Sunday, Oct. 29, a woman later self-identified as Julie Briskman, made the rude gesture to the president’s motorcade twice as she was cycling on the same road.

Heck. Except for the selfie, I did the same thing to Clinton...

Same here. :-) Bill's motorcade passed right in front of my office building one day, and I was down on the street waiting for the police detail to clear the intersection so I could use the crosswalk. I set my briefcase down so both hands were free to deliver the double-bird.

I'm probably on some USSS "greatest hits" security video compilation.

Had she not posted it on her “socialist media” page, would anyone have recognized her from that angle? Just askin’. ;-)

This is supposed to be a free country, freedom of speech and expression. This one looks like total overkill

The 1st Amendment only says that the government may not restrict your freedom of speech.

It holds no power over private entities.

This country was founded on the principle of self-determination. You are free to act, but you must be willing to face the consequences for your actions.

In this woman's case she found out that her employer felt her actions reflected poorly on them and severed their ties. Her employer operates out of Virginia, which is an at-will state.

Yeah, I agree. You should be able to be whatever d**k you want on your own time.

She can, and she did. What's the problem?

She was not fired for flipping the bird. She was fired for improper use of social media (per their code of conduct) by posting the pic of her doing it on her facebook page.

I’d flip off Obama if I had the chance. Even now.

If not, I’m not a fan of her firing, despite what she did. The First Amendment guarantees your right to express opinions on your free time. Would anyone here who said rude things about Obama want to be fired for doing so?

Not quite. The first Amendment upholds your right of free speech against repercussions from the government. It has nothing to do with what private employers might do. The fact that she posted on social media, a picture of the vulgar behavior, means anybody can connect her to the event. As the owner of the company, he has every right to fire her rear end if he feels she is, or can/will become a liability.

No, it’s not crap. She’s free to express herself as she sees fit. She is not, however, free from the consequences. Whether you like it or not, you are an extension of your employment 24/7. Most jobs it may not matter as much...some it does. Those who work in the public sector, or a private company that contracts with the public sector may have a potential conflict if they wish to stay in that business. Private businesses also have the right to not want to deal with potential negative publicity that results from an employee exercising their first amendment right in a way that may (in their view) bring discredit to the business. They are, after all, in business to make money. If your employee(s) do things on “their own time” that may risk you making money, you have the right to fire them. Especially if your company’s policies stipulate that.
