Baltimore Mayor Pugh says crime 'out of control,' orders agencies to meet with police every morning

Calling violence in Baltimore "out of control," Mayor Catherine Pugh ordered 30 agency heads to meet every morning at police headquarters, and to make crime reduction the top mission not only of police, but also of health workers, housing officials and public works crews.

The mayor ordered the directors of more than half of the city’s 55 departments to report to meetings daily at 8 a.m., when they will plan with Police Commissioner Kevin Davis where weeds should be cut, lead paint covered and drug houses boarded up and job applications can be handed out, among other tasks.

"Violence in the city is out of control," she said. "I want every neighborhood to know I am extremely concerned and focused on reducing violence."

Killings in the city have surged past 300 this year for a third year in a row. Violent crime is up 13 percent over last year, and reports of groups of youths attacking people apparently at random have dominated recent local news cycles.

Cutting weeds is part of it, which is what I was referring to. And yes, it is only a part.

The cops are taking my advice, drive fast in those neighborhoods, look straight ahead, only go where ordered to go. Why put your career in jeopardy, your life too for no reason? Patrol the parts of town that appreciate your service and let the other parts patrol themselves.

> Cutting weeds, too. <

The article does not address a key question: Will the city hire new weed cutters after the original workers are assaulted, robbed, then chased away?

We know what segment of the population is out of control they need to face facts and quit beating around the bush and talk about the real problem

Pipe dream. White guilt + black militancy = chaos.

Another Republican hellhole.

Wait.....My bad......this crap-hole they call Baltimore is owned and run, lock, stock and barrel by the democRATS. Make that black democRATS.

Since the riots, where the mayor told the police to stand down and let the rioters destroy the city, things appear to be looking up in Baltimore.

At least now they're starting to address those weeds and lead paint problems with some donut and coffee breaks at 8 AM daily.

Baltimore, challenging Detroit and Chicago as the biggest urban dumps in America.

Yes of course it is. As is painting over graffiti, picking up litter, towing abandoned cars, etc.

The more important part, though, is enforcing minor laws. Which can include littering, keeping your property maintained, etc.

The purpose of crime control is to effect behavior. Whether that means keeping your city clean, maintained, or crime free.

Just doing what she can to protect her phoney baloney job.
Thank you Mel Brooks.

Charm City ain’t so charming any more...

More like need a whole lot of ‘charmin’ for all the crap that spews out of there.

It is a sanctuary city because they were killing to many of their own and the thugs demanded some new blood or they would take the crap to the ‘money parts of town where you all live’

Back in the ‘day day’, the leaders of the outlaw groups lived in the neighborhoods where they did business.
They were ALWAYS on hand when the kids need a basketball, were getting bothered by ‘other’ neighborhoods and generally ‘protected’ their own turf.

Fast forward to Tony Soprano, who (wisely) moved to a Mansion out in the sticks so the only time he came in contact with the riffraff was when he was ‘working’.

I guess you could liken that to the police...the only time the citizens see them is if they are arresting someone...

Some one came up with community policing and while the courts would basically ‘back the cops’, it sort of worked, then walking a beat was considered uneconomical in everyday language as the more welfare, paid public housing etc took too much money out of the POLICING fund so ‘they’ decided a car was cheaper than 5 beat cops etc etc etc

But Mayor Pugh, I thought the police were the problem in Baltimore. Certainly your upstanding citizens are not committing crimes, or is it that the upstanding citizens have come to your neighborhood to continue being upstanding?

Saigon was safer in the ‘60’s than Baltimore is today. I live several miles from downtown but rarely venture there after dark except when we go out to eat which is rare and then only to places with secure (relatively) parking very close by. I’ve been in several cities in the past that have enacted measures to promote public safety. Singapore comes to mind. We were station ship for two weeks in 1970 and I never felt in any dangers in any of the ethnic sectors. Of course Singapore had a law prohibiting more than two or three unrelated people congregating outside. Also, the penalties for drug possession and drug dealing were lengthy imprisonment for the former and death for the latter. On the same cruise, we had occasion to tie up to the pier at Vung Tau. This little seaside ville was an R & R destination for both U.S. troops and Viet Cong warriors so all weapons had to be checked at the gates and there was a 6pm to 6am curfew. Baltimore is in a wartime state which elected “leaders” will not acknowledge. All the meetings will not accomplish Jack Shit. Disappearing the feral yutes like the way Rio cleaned up its streets would probably not appeal to the Baltimore citizenry but might go over yugely in it’s suburbs.

Eliminate liberalism. Stop giving money to these people that you see here destroying a police car. Treat crime committed by blacks the same way that you treat other crime. Create a climate favorable to business, and stop taking so much money from the state.
Stop being liberals.

Since you have hand-cuffed and vilified Law Enforcement, you have lost your authority to protest the results.

Murder rate per capita is higher in Baltimore than in Chicago. At least this year it is and maybe was last year too.
