WASHINGTON (AP) -- Without lifting a finger, the Trump administration may be witnessing the culmination of nearly two decades of U.S. efforts to pry Zimbabwe from the powerful grasp of its authoritarian President Robert Mugabe. Yet with Mugabe's fate and Zimbabwe's political future in limbo, neither Trump nor previous administrations can claim credit or celebrate.
The past three American leaders have actively and outspokenly sought to isolate Mugabe and his ruling clique for human rights abuses, hoping to encourage a democratic transition. Since January, however, it's been virtual crickets. Now the 93-year-old is under house arrest with his rule nearing an end, a victim not of U.S. and Western pressure but of domestic infighting.

We are getting exactly what we want in Zimbabwe.
He was finally brought down by his wifes overreach.
The lying AP never miss an opportunity to smear Trump.
What a bunch of scums.
Those who took over, may wind up being even worse than Mugabe and that possibility is more probable than not.
The minute the wife laid out the agenda, it was destined to be a coup.
If you follow the news, his son got into the news last week, big divorce. Son appears to have judgement issues.
I doubt your premise. This looks CIA instigated all the way.
Have you ever been there?
Do you know, personally, in real life, anyone from there or even from a neighboring nation?
I know our foreign policy goals, the bad things Mugabe has been doing and the work of the CIA in dealing with such trouble makers.
Not good enough; not by a long shot.
I really don’t give a F” about your position.
And I laugh hysterically at your benighted, uneducated, fairy tale/old movie opinion.
I know more about what is going on than you do.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure ya do and the moon is made of green cheese, babies are delivered by stokes, and I’m really President Trump. ;^)
Possibly, Ditto, with North Korea. All of the purging that’s happening in North Korea makes me wonder what’s going on there, too!
On April 12, 1980, Samuel Doe led a military coup, killing President William R. Tolbert, Jr., in the Executive Mansion. Twenty-six of Tolberts supporters were also killed in the fighting. Shortly after the coup, government ministers were walked publicly around Monrovia in the nude and then summarily executed by a firing squad on the beach.
Exactly so and that had nothing at all to do with our CIA!
The reason Mugabe is being taken out is due to his preoccupation with his own power and his failure to live up to his obligations in upholding his side on the international war on terrorism. Here are a few examples of the rise of terrorism in Africa and the threats developing there:

Think about what just happened to our troops in Niger and then it will make sense to you.
I want all of the Mugabe’s buried up to their necks in ant hills.
