Should he have employed the fellow?
OK, just being wry here.
Well, I think one could be carrying out “gay” vice in the closet and still have enough mind left to know that this stuff is going to be utter hell to society if it gets out of the closet.
Sodom was most definitely a non-closet situation.
Not to say God smiles on it in any wise, but some people don’t even make the same distinctions that the bible does, which when it was carried out such that there were not two or more witnesses, it would skate as far as the law’s penalty was concerned.
Getting it back out of society can’t mean extinguishing every single case of it. We don’t have police that can do this. But it can mean understanding that the closet should remain the closet.

The homos should have stayed in the closet, US Law still recognized 'same-sex civil unions' for 'significant others'. They instead chose to attempt re-defining marriage which alienated normal people; thus contradicting their premise that they simply demanded tolerance & equal rights. They now demand that we hetero folks Celebrate, and Endorse their 'lifestyle' choices... That strategy has back-fired, and I believe the pendulum has started to swing in the opposite direction. MAGA!
