I think one could enunciate and defend a sane secular policy that it was just plain wrong from any point of view to make all society into what had been in the closet.
That really DOES hustle towards Sodom, which I humbly suggest from the bible narrative suggests a government involvement that has turned ugly. If “men of the city” aren’t merely literally all the citizens of the city, but rather the politicians, the leaders, the bigwigs — what that would have mean is that the power of this lust had managed to seize government. God had tolerated this nonsense all the way up to the point it did that. And even was going to keep on tolerating it if there were but “ten righteous men” left. But things were now hopeless. It had now seized the power of society and there wasn’t even enough to mount a protest. NOW came the fire and the brimstone.
And if it hadn’t come there, it would have come in eternity as the thing finally fizzled out into death on earth.
The wild things that went on in bathhouses, shouldn’t be propositioning people on the street, even if one thinks that private sin is in some sense okay. And America may yet go a certain distance till it reaps that whirlwind. But reap it, America eventually will, unless miracle turns it back.
Each individual is answerable to God only, not to their fellow men.
