Road Trip: The United States Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania

carlisle2

Carlisle Barracks is a United States Army facility located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It is part of the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command and is the site of the U.S. Army War College. It is the nation's second-oldest active military base.

carlisle3

The Army War College was created as a solution to the military failings uncovered during the Spanish-American War. On 27 November 1901, Secretary of War, Elihu Root established the Army General Staff and the Army War College to train staff officers by General Order 155. As an adjunct to the staff, the college would advise the President, devise plans, acquire information, and direct the intellectual exercise of the Army.

carlisle4

In 1916, the official relationship between the General Staff and the college ended with the passage of the National Defense Act. Engagement in World War I followed and the school closed for two years.
Reopening in the fall of 1919, the focus shifted from preparing and mentoring the General Staff to the academic studies of war. The curriculum included historical studies, responsible command, and the effects of political, social and economic factors on national defense.

During this period, the nation's key World War II leaders including Generals Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton, Omar Bradley and Admiral William Halsey further developed their knowledge and skills as Army War College students.

carlisle5

The main post area of Carlisle Barracks is approximately 4/5 of a mile long and 1/2 mile wide, containing 217 acres. Other areas detached but adjacent or nearby are owned by the government and the post is responsible for them.

They are the Stanwix area, containing family housing; the Army Heritage Education Center complex; and the Farm 2 area, containing principally a golf course, heliport and stables. The total acreage of the reservation is 456 acres, on which are located approximately 300 government-owned buildings.

And to some of us, it IS big news.
It’s about people’s lives and that’s always important.
They aren’t American sailors but they’re serving their country and it’s hard not to respect that. Or to feel dismay about their ordeal.

Same here! It’s not just anyone who can handle being in such close quarters plus underwater for long stretches of time. I have a couple of friends who served on subs and they’re crazy ..... in a good way. LOL! You have to have, or develop, a good sense of humor to help you get through it, I guess, and it stays with them for life.

I’ll bet you’re right. Sounds like there was poor communications with the sub and their headquarters or whoever they would let know that they were in trouble.

But, then...I don’t know beans about military procedure. LOL! Even though hubby was military.

WooooHoooo!!

Hope your day was a good one today. We had the rehab guy out today to get Dulcie set up. I’m so annoyed....one of the nurses had put in her records that she had dementia. That couldn’t be farther from the truth!! Her mind is probably sharper than mine! LOL!

It was very pretty here today...if a bit chilly. Did it warm up for you today? Hope so, so you and Churchill could have your walk!

Dang! I assume the nurse’s name is somewhere in the records so she can be dealt with about her mistake. That’s a pretty big one.
Glad the rehab guy was there today. Did the hoist arrive today as well? Y’all really need that!

It was just a few degrees warmer today and not warm enough to take Churchill outside for a walk. He has a stuffy head now and is going to the vet tomorrow to get a shot. He hasn’t been eating much the past few days because he can’t smell the food. But I gave him a few minutes standing over the little vaporizer just before supper today and he ate well, thank goodness.

Hubby said he thought that diagnosis was passed to her from someone else. I did set the record straight, though, so maybe the guy today will change it.

Hubby got the perscription for the hoist, but it has to go through the doc, and it’s a holiday week, blahblah. So we’ve found workarounds for doing things for her without having to lift her. Bless her heart!

Hope ol’ Churchill will feel better after his shot, and I know you were relieved that he ate. How did you know that the vaporizer would help, and how did you get him to stay still long enough for it to? Good kitty!

I sure hope he sets the record straight. Don’t need that hanging on in her records.

Red tape. Just your luck. And why do these things always come up during holiday weekends. Murphy’s Law I guess. LOL
At least you seem to have things taken care of to get you through until the hoist arrives.

The shot should help clear his head up, for a while at least. Others have had the shot and it’s worked.
I’ve used the vaporizer with Jade for a while when she gets stove up. I have to hold her over it but Church was a good boy and stood in place. That’s good because he’s lager and heavier than Jade. He must have felt relief right away because he didn’t fight at all.

But if the shot works like it should, it’ll keep him from having to do this before each meal and make life easier all around.

It does seem like Murphy’s Law is working around here most of the time!

Guess I’d better go. It’s really late and as you probably guess, I don’t sleep to well now. I have to listen for the little bell to ring or for other sounds of need, because hubby sleeps like the dead. LOL!

He did the same thing when we had a baby in the house. Men!

Murphy stays busy, that’s for sure. He’s been busy at your house the past few days and was busy here tonight.

Hubby FINALLY decided to turn on the gas so we could turn on the gas heaters. We’re lucky the pipes in Clara’s kitchen didn’t freeze last night because there’s been no heat in her side of the house. And the space heaters in the area where I spend my time really haven’t been enough to keep the rooms comfy.

I vacuumed the cat hair out of the heater in here while Hubby was working on Clara’s. The thermocoupler on hers needed to be replaced and it took him a long time to find the extra he knew was here.
He finally got hers going, then started on ours. Somehow one if the cats broke a wire and that needed to be replaced. It’s now working and this part of the house is starting to reach comfort levels. Whew!
What should have taken a few minutes went on for a couple of hours. He’s not in the best of moods at the moment.

Hey, it isn’t only men who sleep like the dead. LOL! I’ve slept through many a raucous thunderstorm and even through a large tree being taken down just outside the bedroom!

Good night and I hope you’re able to sleep through without interruptions.

Goooood 2-days-before-Turkey Day!
It's nice and cool here!
We're supposed to have another cold front roll through.
Just hope it doesn't include a sand storm.
The last one was icky!
We still have green leaves on the trees! LOL!
Someone forgot to tell them it's FALL!
What do all of you have planned for the holiday?
I hope you will be with family!
((((hugs))))
