No soup for you? Campbell plunges on poor sales
CNN ^ | November 21, 2017 | Paul R. La Monica

When the thing your company is named for is no longer selling all that well, that's a big problem. Just ask Campbell Soup, which reported lousy earnings Tuesday because of weak soup sales. Shares of Campbell Soup (CPB) plunged more than 7% after the food giant said that soup sales in the U.S. fell 9% from a year ago. The company also lowered its earnings outlook for fiscal 2018.

You should make your own soup. Much better and better for you. Cheaper, too.

I make my own soups. Just made potato soup for 12 last month.

This month I made chicken noodle soup from scratch for 12.

Next month I will make beef stew with vegetables for our group of 12.

All homemade.

I started making my own cream bases when a recipe called for it - I always keep home made bone stock on hand-

I haven't bought Campbell's since the two daddies commercial.

Just what do they think they gain with asinine commercials like that

I stopped buying any Campbell's products (including Pepperidge Farm, Prego, Swanson, International Brands, etc.) when they went all-in for the homos. Same for Target and others. And I've never patronized Starbucks, ever.

I often hear people say "Boycotts don't work." I've never agreed with that, and I think more and more people are awakening to the power of the simple boycott.

Save those turkey bones for the soup pot! Anyone should be able to make decent homemade soup. It’s almost always better and certainly less expensive than the bought product.

We don’t watch a whole lot of TV, but it is virtually impossible to find a white/white couple any more in any commerical. They are just about all black or black/white.

I am also noticing a lot where one “spouse” is clearly of a certain sex, but it is really hard to tell the sex of the other.

It is depressing.

Their product taste like CRAP anymore and is grossly overpriced.

Cans have shrunk repetitively, prices are outrageous, and their taste is horrible.

They removed the sodium so that their chicken noodle literally has ZERO taste... the vegetable beef is full of HFCS... WHY??? I have made vegetable soup by a many recipes and none NONE ever called for SUGAR to be added to the stock...

They were once a go to staple.. now they are overpriced dog food.

Good homemade soup is easy to make. Commercial brands are all salt.

EXACTLY!

Its condensed mass produced soup, and its grossly overpriced as well... and frankly tastes like crap anymore.

Yes, you are so right.

I have a container that I keep in the freezer for leftover vegetables — 1/2 a cup of peas, for example. Always throw in chopped up celery leaves, too, after I trim a bunch of celery. I, also, sometimes save some of the cooking water from potatoes, chicken, etc. When it’s soup making time, I just defrost and throw in whatever I have accumulated in the container, along with the defrosted zip-lock bags of potato or chicken water.

Sounds good. I got 3 cans for $4.00. Reduced sodium.

There is too much sugar and salt added to too many things.
