What is the danger that Roy Moore poses to the Senate GOP?
The American Spectator ^ | Nov 22, 2017 | Elfego Baca

...Judge Roy Moore will do what is right for Alabama and for America. And when Majority Leader McConnell calls for a unanimous vote to declare the Senate to be in a Pro Forma Session, Senator Moore will not mislabel it. If Congress is in recess, and no serious business is being conducted, he will vote to call it a recess. You see, Congress has these “pro forma” sessions that pretend Congress is still in session so the President cannot make any recess appointments to any position. But I suspect the key to these votes is that they have been unanimous. Under Senate rules, if just one senator doesn’t play ball, a vote is required on the record. Senator Moore is likely to be that one senator. And the other senators don’t want to be on the record, sabotaging their President. And therein lies the $30 million problem….

If Senator Moore can force the Senate into a real Recess, it can happen

He can't.

A dirty little secret is that he’s still doing it to President Trump, thus preventing him from making recess appointments. If Moore can force a real recess the President would be free to fill every single appointed position in one fell swoop.

Both parties can hold pro-forma sessions of the Senate and prevent a formal recess. Moore can't change that.

The day the GOP + Dems are <218 in the House and <50 in the Senate is the day we win our freedom. Not before.

“Both parties can hold pro-forma sessions of the Senate and prevent a formal recess.”

I was unaware of that. Thanks for the correction.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Agreed!

Moore may be the first step, and they sure as hell are fighting it and him as though their grip on power depended on it.

Hopefully people in Texas notice that.

The problem is that no strong candidate has appeared to challenge Cruz. The
primary is in March so not a long time left for someone to become a statewide
candidate with enough money to be a factor. IMO.

For this alone i am sending Judge Leonidas Moore another $50.
History in the making Judge Leonidas Moore faces down and defeats 99 Senators. ..the combined forces of the MSM, lobbyists and democrats.

Interesting...I guess that means our wonderful Senator Cruz voted with the Democrats on restricting Trump’s power.

And Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ghomert....

I think that’s a red herring - it’s like how a “fillibuster” has now become Ted Cruz reading Green Eggs & Ham on the Senate floor. It used to be that when in recess, they actually went on recess. With McConnell + Murkowski and the NeverTrumper’s they are again in bed with the RATs and faking it - sure, if they want to hold actual sessions over the Christmas holidays to stay “in session”, for example, instead of going into recess, they could do that, but they want to be on recess and not at the same time and thus the dilemma.

Roy Moore can do that all on his own? Wow.

Any senator can. All it takes is a single objection and the pernicious tactic of "unanimous consent" can be done away with. The fact that no one has stood up to do so says something very bad about every sitting senator.

Moore can start a coalition of the senate deplorables. Its hard to stand alone against that power. The senate has power and money to influence any senators attempt at reelection. Tow the line or we will destroy your reelection!

Now comes Moore who stood against them and their candidate and the press and all the shit thrown at him. It takes one person to start the revolt against the senate uniparty power holders. There are others in the senate who buck them but but now hopefully the door is open to others from other states or senators. I’m tired of them getting rich off our misery, selling our future, and just being so damn corrupt.

Dick Shelby your next! I’m disappointed in you old Dickie boy.

No, Moore is not that dumb.

He will join a group that asks him. He is not dumb enough to try to start a group.

We will see. I don’t think he will be towing the McConnell line. He will get pushed of to some dog patch committee no doubt but he will be a thorn to the establishment as often as he can. Too bad he’s already old.

I want to send some more $ to Judge Moore but I don’t know where it would best be used. I get 3-4 emails a day from different organizations soliciting for $ to his campaign. Anyone have any suggestions?

Moore will be a Newbie....... he must not only prove his worth but also pay his dues.

What is the McConnell line of which you speak? McConnell is the Republican leader of the Senate.

How does that work?

All they have to do is object to the motion for unanimous consent, and a roll call vote will be required. If any single senatecritter objects, the motion for unanimous consent cannot carry, because it is not unanimous.
