Excatly ! How ‘bout we let the states decide how they want to manage this Rachel
The purpose of the National Popular Vote bill is to ensure the destruction of the Republic and rule of law, with mob rule, whipped up by whatever the national media and the nanny-state push as the narrative of the day.
Yeah! Lets become a democracy!
SMH.
I have no interest in living in a country where presidents are elected only by that segment of the population that happens to live within 500 miles of Louisville, Kentucky.
Electoral copy works just fine.
America needs more state auto omy. Not less
Popular vote as legal result (never) but only after nation wide voter ID and vote fraud legislation, which will never happen. So forgetaboutit.
We don’t “fear” it. We just believe that the USA, as established in our Constitution, was a pretty damned good idea and we don’t need to go to some headcount system that lesser nations use.
The only change we need is the end of the Two-Party system, since the two parties essentially merged over the last two decades.
But the STATES in the United STATES need to still have specific powers.
The fact that every one of the eleven jurisdictions (ten states plus the District of Columbia) is a deep "blue" state in presidential elections should have been the first clue to the author of this garbage that this idea is idiotic.
The compact isn't even legally binding. In a presidential election year, any state that signs it can simply drop out of it between Election Day and the Electoral College vote through a vote of their own state legislature.
The founders were brilliant men and designed a brilliant system of government.
The electoral college assures that all states get a say.
Ignoring the natural born citizen clause was disastrous for US.
It’s not fear. It’s that we have a republic, and we want to keep it.
The system is put there for a reason, and just because someone doesn’t like it doesn’t mean we should change it.... It has served its purpose for more than 200 years, and in spite of the whining by the left.... they have not presented one argument on why it should be changed an how their change would continue to ensure that the Executive is rewarded for breadth not depth.
Rachael,
You are an idiot. Why show it by writing drivel.

<>When polled (by a left-leaning polling company), 74 percent of Americans support direct presidential elections.<>
BFD. I’d bet a percentage or two wanna be a firetruck.
The purpose of “National Popular Vote” is to remove the firewall of state boundaries that limit the value of ballot-box-stuffing in the big-city urban plantations.
The Electoral College is there for a reason. It STAYS!
In the last general election one state, “CALIFORNIA” would have overridden 49 other states to make Hillary Clinton the President of the United States.
Anyone not grasping the implications of that, really needs to sit down and shut their pie-hole.
None of the votes in 49 states would have mattered, just California’s would have.
Tell me that makes sense in any sane person’s mind.
We took the squirrel rifles off the wall after our objections to being taxed without being represented were ignored.
And nothing mentioned in the article about widespread voter fraud, the president of the USA at the time urging such fraud, etc.
Now Townhall is suggesting that .. most of the country wouldn’t have a problem being disenfranchised in favor of urban lefties and foreigners here illegally?
Do these `reporters’ receive any education in history, politics or informal logic? (OK, that may be the problem.)
Rachel’s out of her everluvin mind!
National popular vote basically turns the nations fate over to the handful of the biggest cities that can amass the greatest vote piles, by hook or by crook. The penthouse archipelago rules as the ancient city states ruled their surrounding rural lands.
This is such an absurd statement.
The Electoral College is a firewall that keeps vote fraud contained the state. By moving to a National Popular Vote, all the fraudulent votes will count nationwide.
In California alone, the fraudulent votes cast by non-citizens are likely to be more than all the votes cast in New Hampshire or Vermont or Rhode Island or Delaware, or any other small state. Instead of the "windfall of electoral votes" being smaller, it will be the entire Electoral Vote majority.

A popular vote is unconstitutional. End of story.
Trump won the popular vote outside of California. He also won the popular vote outside of LA and NYC. We will become Panem from the Hunger Games.
