With Thursday's announcement that Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Texas will not seek re-election in 2018, eight congressional seats in Texas will have a different representative come January 2019.
That's the biggest turnover in the state's congressional delegation since 2005, according to data from the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas at Austin. The departure of six Republicans and two Democrats thus far, which represents over 20 percent of Texas congressional delegation, has sparked speculation about whether the state could play a key role in the Democratic Partys quest to retake the House of Representatives in 2018.
In addition to Farentholds announcement, prompted in part by a former staffer's sexual harassment allegations against him that he denies, Representatives Jeb Hensarling, Lamar Smith, Ted Poe, Joe Barton and Sam Johnson are the other Republicans who have said they too will not seek re-election in 2018

Texas filing date for the primary just passed. There should be more retirements announced next year. https://ballotpedia.org/State_and_federal_candidate_filing_deadlines_for_2018
I would like to see Col. Allen West back in Congress.
Problem is Democrat voters don’t care about odd butthole pleasures when it comes to voting.
Citizens should find and run their own candidates. Depending on the party to do it means more of what’s leaving
I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed.
Chilling to ponder that Obama said one of his fondest dreams was to turn Texas Democrat.
The Alabama win has no doubt strengthened Democrats’ resolve.

Y’all remember O’Keefes’ ‘ho’ in the ACORN sting? And she and her husband conducting this sting on TX politicians two years ago:
Conservative group secretly made videos of Texas legislators
AUSTIN A conservative group acknowledges fielding 16 people with hidden cameras at the Capitol for six months in a bid to expose hypocrisy by Texas lawmakers.
The Austin-based American Phoenix Foundation, founded by a couple who have worked in the past with celebrity right-wing sleuth James OKeefe, has paid all costs of the effort, spokesman John Beria said Tuesday.
FTA: He said anti-Straus activists have steadily lost support among House members and can count on fewer than 19 votes. They are desperate to deny Straus a fifth term as speaker in 2017, said Larson, who recalled being approached outside a committee room Wednesday by an odd character who had a camera hidden in an attaché case.
I would not underestimate the Dems concerning something like that, but that had just as much (or maybe that little bit more) to do with Trump voters in Alabama staying home and RINO incompetency and outright interference that basically gave the Dem that window to win there.
One other suggestion: Folks should also find conservative Dems to run in ‘Rat primaries. FWIW, if the candidate is a conservative, I could give a rat’s hairy hind end about the letter after the name. Running a DINO doubles the chances of a conservative getting the seat. Why fight half a battle.

I am not sure Steve Bannon would agree with you.
This is going to get interesting as Bitch Mitch McConnell and his bend over boys vie with the Bannon Bunch in the primaries.
Good strategy.
I dont dislike Doug Jones half as much as the fact the Dems were given an opening by RINOS dumb strategy....Bannon even praised the Dems ground game.
But folks will have to work outside the parties to do this. God knows party apparatchiks will do their best to ensure that no conservative gets on any ticket.
Maybe we can keep them busy with something else, say a sex scandal?
It’s time to start a grass roots movement to revitalize the “WHIG PARTY”, check out the history...
All obstructions to the execution of the laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels and modified by mutual interests.
However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.
From his Farewell Address.
Talk about prophetical...
