Mass Exodus From States Run By Top Democratic Governors Continues
forbes ^ | Dec 23, 2017 | Patrick Gleason

The Democratic Governors Association, in an attempt to attack Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) tweeted this week about how 33,000 people left Illinois for another state over the past year, continuing years of outmigration from the Land of Lincoln.

What they won’t be touting is the fact that during the administration of Gov. Pat Quinn (D), Rauner’s predecessor, 247,410 people on net left Illinois for the likes of North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and other states that are better stewards of taxpayers dollars. Those 247,410 people, according to IRS migration data, took $13.7 billion with them to states that that are better run and have lower taxes.

The DGA really doesn’t want to dive into interstate migration data, as it does not reflect well on their most prominent governors. Let’s start by looking at what has happened in California since Jerry Brown became governor again in January of 2011.

Since Gov. Brown was sworn in, becoming the oldest governor in state history, 243,099 people have fled California on net for other states, taking $7.794 billion with them to states that don’t have such high taxes and onerous regulations that make housing unaffordable for middle class households.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), a 2020 presidential contender, is another prominent Democrat who is chasing families and employers out his state with crushing taxes and onerous regulations.

Since Gov. Cuomo was sworn in, 577,286 people on net have fled New York for other states, taking more than $27 billion with them.

And then there is the Chairman of the DGA, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy. Since Malloy took office in 2011, 73,676 people on net have left his state. That's a lot of former Nutmeggers and they took $8.543 billion with them to states with more hospitable tax climates.

Hasn’t happened in past downturns, but one can certainly hope.

You assume all those leaving states that are very liberal...with all the things that go with that... are liberal themselves.

Not so...many are Conservative....

The same is happening for majority Democrat cities in red states. Memphis, Tennessee, has people fleeing it in high numbers.

Well....people ask me why did you move to Oklahoma.

I tell them I don't know...but don't move here....

The ticks are the size of mice.

The chiggers are the size of beetles...and the winters are like hell froze over...

Do not move here.........

Obama’s $700 billion “stimulus” was simply a bailout for state and local government budgets.

Tarp and the Federal Reserve bailed out the banks and Wall Street

All that was left was for the Fed to drive real interest rates negative to goose the stock market and property.

I don’t know how states like California and Illinois will be saved next time.

I marvel at California, because Brown and the Democrats have done everything they could to kill the state economy. They just don’t seem to be able to do it. And boy, have they tried.

They just raised our gas tax rates. They have added $100 to our vehicle registrations. They are looking at adding on a fee per mile driven to boot.

This is how they think across the board.

California still booms. It still ranks above normal in relation to how much it pays the federal government, to how much it gets back.

I have no idea how it does it, other than the fact it’s an incredibly robust state.

I know people think it’s on the verge of bankruptcy, but it really isn’t. Go figure.

I liver here and I can’t figure it out. Any other state would be toes up by now.

Good thing you left - they will probably be putting up fences soon to keep the rest of us in the USSR-WA, where psychos run just about everything.

Can some brilliant FReeper please explain to me what is meant by "and took $#### with them"?

Does it meant that they had that much cash on their persons when they crossed into another state... or does it mean that state tax revenues decreased by that amount when they left? I am inclined to believe that the article means the latter, but it isn't explicit.

Regards,

Gov. Dan Malloy (D-Ct) is one sick Marxist bastard. And Connecticut’s congressional representatives “represent” one of the most mentally ill, Marxist, arrogant, lying SOBs ever to sit in power. Blumenthal - “Stolen Valor” fake Vietnam soldier, and they still elected this fool as Senator.

No wonder Connecticut, esp. its’ once fine old cities like Bridgeport, are now economic and cultural shit-holes of the 3rd World kind.

You get what you elect, so suck on it Connecticut, and Rhode Island, you aren’t much better. If it weren’t for the rich, white liberals, you’d be a 4th World-rated state.

Northern Michigan is currently getting an influx of Texans...odd. We’re pretty redneck but average 130 inches of snow yearly. Hope you get out soon.

I think if California was in the Midwest it would be Illinois. LOL

That coastline has to account for something.

>> Until Trump was elected I was considering emigration.

Thought about this myself, but always come to the conclusion that despite the problems in the USA, you are still freeer and taxed less in the USA than most other countries - so which countries would you consider, and why?
