Whoopie. My ROE would not allow me to do this. Cops shouldn’t have a looser ROE than the military.

It only makes sense that cops are apprehensive of their lives. When they tell you do not do something, don’t do it. Nobody ever died when being polite to a cop. Only those that don’t obey cops have the tendency to suicide by cop. I apologize if I sound harsh, but I speak the plain truth.

So. If you’re a cop in a bad shooting incident - you want to call this Lewinski guy as an expert to testify on your behalf.

William J. Lewinski richly deserves to be shot by a cop who in ‘in fear for his life’.

It’s getting to the point where citizens rightly fear for their lives in a police encounter. The first use of that defense for the charge of killing a cop can’t be too far off.

When feminism came along and they were forced to hire women patrol officers, did the training change?

I remember long ago LA cops had a height requirement that was above that of the average male. Cops were big men.

I know those requirements are all gone.

Is a gun the only remaining defense?

Listening to a cop barking orders with a gun to your head should not be a life or death situation. Its not constitutional. And its a slipper slope to police doing this with everyone not just black people or people who are low lifes. A cop should not pull his gun unless there is some reason to assume danger. If you were white with a suit, the cop would let you put your hands in your pocket, reach into your glove compartment and check under your seat. But if the cop is scared for no fault of your own and you do something normal but in the eyes of a cop who does not have the nerve to be a cop., you could be dead.

These anarchists are the first to denigrate and question anything from the NY Times, except when it comes to Law Enforcement. They then swallow the kool-aid and proclaim 99% of LEOs are murderers and thieves.

Having had the privilege of reading much of Dr. Lewiski’s writings, I can verify that the entire article was slanted.

Flame away

If the account is correct, the cop’s command and then his shooting of the subject when he composed is totally unjustifiable.

I mention this whenever these threads come up and FR starts sounding like an Antifa rally -- out of a nation of 315 million people, including literally thousands if not millions of foreign organized crime members from south if the border, there were fewer than 1000 fatal shootinga by police in 2017. Roughly 750k LE in the US, conducting dozens of ineractions per day with people from all walks of life, being involved in any number of hairy situations, and the rate could justifiably be expected to be much higher. But it's not.

Too many FReepers fall for the media scamming to make this seem like a bigger problem than it is. Understanding that fatal shootings aren't the only issue here, rest assured that you are very, very likely to survive your next speeding ticket.

I’d be happy to see this bastard on trial and given a life sentence.

A cop that shoots under those circumstances should be sentence to general population at a nasty prison.

I have friends and family in law enforcement, but LEOs that shoot people in the back, or unarmed persons in non-threatening situations should be eligible for sentence up to, and including the death penalty if convicted in a court of law.

It should also be possible to charge their commanding officers and sue their municipalities out of existence.

“if I see the gun, I’m dead?”

Anyone with that cowardly mindset has no business in law enforcement. They are a danger to themselves and all of us.

On the rare occasion I have been stopped, by the time the trooper gets to my car I have my insurance card and concealed carry license in my left hand with the window rolled down and my right hand is on the steering wheel. The first thing I say is “I am armed” and tell the officer where the weapon is. They probably already know as they have instant access to the CCL database that is tied to my license plate number.

Oddly when they see the concealed carry card they are put at ease. The cops know the extremely vast majority that legally carry are the good guys. My actions actually got me out of a couple of tickets. They appreciated what I did during the traffic stop. With very rare exceptions, the cops are the good guys. Respect them and they will respect you. They always called me sir and I always called them sir.

ps
That cop should not have been a cop. He did not have the “right stuff” to be a cop.

The NYT never lets a law enforcement crisis go to waste.

Neither did Janet Reno, as the State Attorney in Miami (Florida's 11th district). Too many FReepers are falling for one (NYT's) side of the story.
