All Four NFL Playoff Games See Double-Digit Ratings Decrease
Sports Illustrated ^ | January 8, 2018 | Jimmy Traina

The NFL had a disastrous weekend when it came to ratings. Numbers have been down all season and it was more of the same for the wild-card games. The biggest surprise was that the best game (Panthers-Falcons) had the biggest decrease year over year. Yes, markets were a big factor, but that was a competitive and entertaining game. Here's the breakdown:

Titans-Chiefs (14.7) was down 11 percent versus last year's Raiders-Texans game.

Falcons-Rams (14.9) was down 10 percent versus last year's Lions-Seahawks game.

Bills-Jaguars (17.2) was down 10 percent versus last year's Dolphins-Steelers game.

Panthers-Saints (20.4) was down 21 percent versus last year's Giants-Packers game.

Why should I boycott the NFL, when so many conservatives will not boycott college football, the minor leagues of the NFL?

Yeah, we cut the cable several years ago. Now we’re taking the next step and paring down our viewing of streaming content.

>>like wasting hours on the internet all week to tell us how you don’t waste time watching football on Sunday?<<

At least I don’t waste my time watching those who hate my country and why are you on FR if you think it’s a waste of time? Hypocrite...

it’s also true that a reduction in sports viewership pushes up cord cutting.

Good point. A large portion of cable viewing is sports. If you no longer care about professional sports, why pay all that money every month?

I think some of the decrease in ratings for sports across the board has to do with peoples’ viewing habits.

A lot of people don’t sit down and watch entire games, they’ll tune in occasionally to see how the game is going, and if the game is close late, they will watch the ending.

they didn’t stop watching they just stopped paying. bad news for cable TV not so much for the NFL which has contracts through 2022
5 games a week broadcast, 3 on regular TV, 2 on pay platforms NFL network Thursday night and Monday night on ESPN, wouldn’t your theory equate to a 20% drop in viewing not 10%?

You can watch games on YouTube for free, just type in the teams in the search bar, filter for “Live” events and most likely someone is streaming the game. Albeit, they might just be videoing the game on their TV set, but if you just want to occasionally check-in on the game, it does the job.

periscope and other apps as well, but we are talking to some dinosaurs that are still using an all text web platform from the 1990’s on satellite internet. not exactly the most tech savvy.

This is not either_or. This is _and_.

The boycott is real.

The cord-cutting is real.

My wife asked me when we were going to watch the Super Bowl this year (so she could plan).

I told her the good news—Boycott Time—first time ever—until Goodell and his leftist cronies are gone!

The NFL actively endorsed the behavior by doing nothing about their employees insulting their customers, then offered millions of dollars to SJW causes and organizations. Plus they are “training” college athletes how to protest in the SJW fashion. Plus their new, phony “we love the military” propaganda which induces vomiting.

I have many friends and family who still watch the NFL and give them their money. I do not condemn them for it but for the reasons I have listed, I no longer do. I know many people who have chosen not to patronize the league any longer for the same reasons I have. I have other reasons for not watching (the games were becoming tedious to watch, over-officiated, too many commercials, etc.), but this last “kneeling” crap was the catalyst to get me to go on to other things.

I just do not happen to think that choosing not to watch these fools any longer for the reasons stated is “silly.”
