U.N. Agency Won’t Say How Many Palestinian ‘Refugees’ It Helps After Census Finds Nearly 2/3 Less

TEL AVIV — The U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which ministers to so-called Palestinian refugees, would not comment when asked by Breitbart Jerusalem to provide the total number of Palestinian “refugees” that UNRWA services in Lebanon.

This after Lebanon’s census data recently placed the number of Palestinian “refugees” living in the country at about one third of the nearly 500,000 reported by UNRWA.

UNRWA runs camps and projects for so-called Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. On its website UNRWA claims “5.1 million refugees” are “covered by our protection mandate,” purportedly including about 500,000 in Lebanon.

While the agency did not provide a comment on the issue of “refugee” numbers in Lebanon, UNRWA spokesperson Chris Gunness earlier this week told Breitbart Jerusalem his agency’s annual budget is based on “actual costs,” implying the budget does not rely on the numbers of so-called Palestinian refugees.

“UNRWA’s services are delivered to all Palestinian refugees in Lebanon,” he stated. “The agency’s assessment of refugees’ needs is based on actual costs.”

Haaretz reported on the census in Lebanon contradicting UNRWA’s nearly 500,000 figure:

Around 175,000 Palestinian refugees live in Lebanon, 45 percent of them in 12 refugee camps and 55 percent in 156 population centers throughout the country, according to a census conducted by Lebanon’s Central Administration of Statistics in partnership with the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

The total is much lower than the official figure of 500,000, cited by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

I24 News added the census was “conducted by 1,000 Lebanese and Palestinian employees and was taken over the course of a year.”

UNRWA is another of those absurd fictions, that Trump needs to upend by simply pointing out the truth, and getting on with business based on reality (i.e., not wasting another perfectly good dollar on it).

How many generations down does someone still qualify as a refugee? Is it added to their genes somehow (but only for this group, not Tibetans or Africans, or the French from WWII).
