Court rules in favor of Trump over fate of consumer watchdog [CFPB]

A federal judge ruled late Wednesday in favor of President Donald Trump and the White House over the control of the national financial watchdog agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

In a 46-page opinion, Judge Timothy Kelly denied Leandra English, the deputy director of the CFPB, a preliminary injection that would have stopped Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s budget director, from taking on a second role as acting director of the agency.

The conflict arose late last month when Richard Cordray, named by President Barack Obama to lead the CFPB, stepped down and named English as his replacement. In response, the White House named Mulvaney as the replacement for Cordray.

This is the second time Kelly ruled has against English, who sought an emergency restraining order against Mulvaney to keep him from taking over the agency. In that first ruling last month, Kelly, a Trump appointee who took the bench last year, expressed skepticism about whether English would prevail in her case.

“Because the court has determined that English is not likely to succeed on the merits, the balance of the equities would necessarily weigh against granting her an injunction,” Kelly said in his opinion. …

CFPB was nothing more than a leftist funding/money laundering operation. Look at where the money went after the shake-downs.

CFPB needs to be eliminated.

What a precedent it would have set if the court did not favor Trump. At some point the swamp is going to have to accept that it doesn’t rule the world anymore.

I agree with your take on it.

Can’t wait until that DACA ruling (yesterday or this morning) is overturned.

If the Fed is truly nothing more than an independent then how and why can it be allowed to directly fund a bureaucracy like this?

I don’t know anything about this agency or the Fed’s relationship to it.

How about a full professional audit?

Could claim that it was in preparation for the Pentagon audit - and what leftist could be against that audit?

There is no precedent to be set - federal bureaucrats do not get to appoint their successors. They aren't royalty. Any ruling against Trump would have been slapped down on appeal and any judge making the ruling would have been laughed at.
