Im telling you he did not use that word, George. And Im telling you its a gross misrepresentation. How many times do you want me to say that? Sen. David Perdue told host George Stephanopoulos on ABCs This Week Sunday.
The gross misrepresentation was that language was used in there that was not used and also that the tone of that meeting was not contributory and not constructive, he said.
Perdue, a Georgia Republican, attended the meeting last Thursday with other GOP and Democratic lawmakers seeking to hammer out a deal on immigration when Trump reportedly wondered out loud why the US accepts immigrants from shithole countries, referring to Africa, Haiti and El Salvador.
The Washington Post reported on the remarks later Thursday and Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin confirmed the presidents use of the language the next day.
Sen. Tom Cotton, another attendee, said he didnt hear what Durbin claims and questioned the Illinois lawmakers motivation.
I certainly didnt hear what Sen. Durbin has said repeatedly. Sen. Durbin has a history of misrepresenting what happens in White House meetings, though. So perhaps we shouldnt be surprised by that, Cotton said on CBS Face The Nation.
Ben Marter, a spokesman for Durbin, shot back at Perdues comments and said the issue comes down to credibility.
Senator Durbin has it. Senator Perdue does not. Ask anyone whos dealt with both, he wrote on Twitter.

IS IT TRUE? Are this countries SHIT HOLES?
In my opinion, yes they are.
What a bunch of wimps.
President Trump said out loud what a lot of people are thinking, and the cult of the professionally offended immediately clutched their pearls while falling onto their fainting couches.
F@#$ them if the can’t handle reality.
Oh, really?
So we should believe Senator Perdue, because we know Senator Dirtback has no credibility.
Did anyone record the meeting, or even that particular comment within the meeting? Is there any actual evidence that can be presented to back up Durbin’s claim?
Trump should troll the media: These are sh*thole countries where we’ve spent billions of dollars to help over the years to no good result. Accepting immigrants from these sh*thole countries just imports that unfixable problem here. No, we don’t need them, Haitians, Mexicans, and others add zero value to the U.S., except cheap labor to undermine our own youth entering the workforce.
I will take Perdue and Cotton’s word over dirty Dick Durbin anytime.
That will be announced on CNNABCCBSNBC... never.
Durbin???? The guy that went on and on and on and on about nominee Neil Gorsuch wanting a trucker to freeze to death which made him unfit to be on the Supreme Court?
Boy, talk about a guy with mental problems.
We have 5 Senators on the side of the citizens and the rule of law.
Perdue, Paul, Grassley, Cotton and Cruz.
We MUST elect more.
Flake, Corker, Hatch are quitting, so three Amnesty Senators are leaving voluntarily.
Heller need to be Cantorized in the primary.
AZ looks like the AZGOP Bush League Republicans are using Joe Arpaio’s ego to crowd the field so McSally can squeak in as an Amnesty Senator.
Utah looks like they are going to elect Bishop Romney so they keep their Amnesty Senator.
Tennessee is one hope for a decent Senator.
“Did anyone record the meeting, or even that particular comment within the meeting? Is there any actual evidence that can be presented to back up Durbins claim?”
If I understand this correctly, the MSM reported this from two independent people who said they heard it from someone at the meeting, but no names were given. Durbin then came in and said he heard it.
This means that if Durbin heard it, and was not a source of the information, and Cotton and Perdue said they did not hear it, that means that 2 of the remaining 3 people in the room were the source. So we now know that the sources couldn’t be anonymous since we know who was in the meeting.
It is the medias responsibility to now tell us who those two people were, because as of now, Trump said he didn’t say it and Cotton and Perdue verify it. Either Durbin is lying or Cotton and Perdue are.
Trump should have asked Democrat Durbin why he still belongs to such a sh*thole party.
That’s my Senator, David Perdue. He replaced Saxby Chambliss. The improvement is exponential.
Of course they are. And I don’t say that to demean the people there.
Do I have compassion for the Haitians? Yes. It really bothers me what a mess that nation is in.
Same goes for other places.
So we are supposed to believe a politician from the corrupt state of Illinois?
From the article, Lindsey Graham: Ive always believed that America is an idea, not defined by its people but by its ideals, his statement concluded.
Curious where the “ideals” mentioned come from IF NOT defined by its people. The “Founders” last I heard were people, and those that have carried on the “ideals” since the founding are, and have been people as well.
Most certainly we acknowledge Gods part in the act, but we must never dismiss the people in history, and making history that are America.
Lindsey Graham is an idiot, and I do not believe he is a Republican.
According to all the press I could find, the press was not invited in to the meeting. So why are they commenting, using the term reportedly, on something that happened in there.
On the same note, why is Durbin making comments to a press that has no reason to know what was said in the meeting that was not to be available to the press.
Ben Marter, a spokesman for Durbin, shot back at Perdues comments and said the issue comes down to credibility.
Senator Durbin has it. Senator Perdue does not. Ask anyone whos dealt with both, he wrote on Twitter.
In 2013, Politico reported: In a negotiation meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told [President Barack Obama]: I cannot even stand to look at you, Durbin wrote in a post on his Facebook page over the weekend. However, both the White House and the House speakers office denied Durbins account of events. Asked about the post in the White House daily briefing, press secretary Jay Carney said he checked with a participant of the meeting in question. Durbin would not comment. I looked into this and spoke with somebody who was in that meeting and it did not happen, Carney said.
Not fake news, just plain lies.
rwood
Of course! the evidence is the claim itself. Durbin is totally believable because he has never been known to lie, misrepresent, exaggerate or even behave in a partisan or politically motivated manner.
But seriously, do you see a pattern in Democrat attacks? Just as with the collusion deal, here they are accusing Trump of engaging in behavior that is not inherently wrong. You see, "collusion" is not a crime; calling these failing states what they actually are (however salty the language) is not inaccurate.
Even if we were generous enough to stipulate that Trump actually said those words and that it was wrong to say them, consider for example that Hillary stole a fortune from Haiti besides the damage done to the country by the human traffickers she facilitated. Trump OTOH, spent his own money to finance missions to help them.
In short, yes, words mean things but actions speak louder than words.
