Great Flaming Wolf Spiders!!!
That really was one of the big problems with that. They tried to ram together no fewer than eleven major databases, many of whose associated apps gave contradictory answers to the same input. A human being will just shrug and say, "Yep, that's the government." A computer freaks out.
A good friend of mine, a hotshot programmer, signed on with the GAO two years ago to try to help them iron this stuff out. It still isn't fixed because the underlying legislation hasn't been reconciled. Which it never was to begin with.
Then I obviously don’t need to read this...
I’d estimate ~5 years for AI capable of self-learning how to wipe out humanity. Some people say it already exists on a chip in black military labs but is isolated from any communications until they study it more.
It can theoretically happen instantaneously the moment AI is smart enough and given sufficient access to the physical world.
We may not even know anything is happening except for that flash of light at the end...
It's that old in and out stuff.
Funny but I don’t believe that that robot will actually be able to take any action concerning anything it “comprehends” due to a variety of factors.
Fully autonomous robots are coming but there are several issues standing in the way:
1) The real world is incredibly complex and I know for a fact that AI is not at the point where any robot can act/react in truly human fashion to the truly immense amount of inputs and decision points that the human mind performs without conscious though.
2) robots are still incredibly limited in their ability to move like animals or people. Advances need to be made in power systems and artificial muscles in order to achieve natural motion.
3) there are so many perverts in the world that the second you take your eyes off those poor robots someone will be molesting them. The first law of robotics stating that “A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.” will have to be updated so the robots can do a little pervert ass-kicking.
Some I see 100,000 question as BS. No human was ever asked that many questions. There are also not that many questions to ask about any particular literary subject.
We should ask all those extra terrestrial civilizations that developed AI how it turned out.
I am not seeing this news as huge, per se’. Having taught at a university for nearly a decade, most students being admitted today have hardly any reading comprehension given most do not want to work towards actual learning. Somewhat reminds me of the movie Idiocracy, much like what the K12 system has been doing for some time, apparently, universities and colleges are dumbing down courses, requirements, admission standards, etc. to allow money, er, ill-prepared students to obtain a higher education. Wonderful stuff, huh? /s
Well, with most of the product coming out of the public school system these part years, especially in large urban areas, this hardly surprises me in the least. Those kids’ comprehension skills may be nil, but they sure know how to speed roll a condom on a banana!!!
I for one welcome our new pleasurebot overlords.
We are so screwed.
My old HP pocket calculator could beat most of the DC high school “graduates” in both reading comprehension and basic math.
Just like most university English professors its excellent at reading comprehension it just doesn’t understand a damn thing.
The robot also excels in math, and in writing news stories about itself.
We are so screwed.
We are so screwed.
We are so screwed.
We are so screwed.
