But there are some obvious questions I see lurking beneath the surface. First, how did this get in the press? Who at the FBI leaked it? And is the FBI now going after Chinese-Americans? Or were they trying to embarrass Murdoch? Or is it just another case of them trying to embarrass Trump and the Republicans?

I believe this has to do with the case the State of NY AG is trying to build against Kushner, whose family has some Chinese financiers for parts of their large enterprise of businesses.
Supposedly that NY AG attempt to build a case is being assisted by, or is on behalf of, Robert Mueller, who wants some state charges ready against Kushner, to try to counterbalance any attempt to potentially pardon Kushner from Federal charges that Mueller may bring.
