Here’s what happens now that the federal government shut down (Most of you won't even feel it)

The federal government won’t be entirely shut now that Congress hasn’t passed a new spending bill by the midnight Friday deadline.

Here’s a rundown:

Post office The US Postal Service is an independent agency of the federal government. Post offices will not be affected. Mail will continue to be delivered.

Social Security

Checks will still be in the mail. But new applications will not be processed until the shutdown ends.

National parks

Unlike the last shutdown, some plan to remain open. Those with safety or staffing issues will close.

Museums and monuments

You will have to cancel that visit to the Statue of Liberty, Lincoln Memorial and other well-known sites. The Smithsonian and the National Zoo plan to stay open for the weekend, but shut starting Monday.

Travel

Airports will stay open. During the last shutdown, more than 14,000 air traffic controllers were ordered to keep working without pay. In a worst-case scenario, delays might be encountered depending on which employees are deemed “non-essential.”

Passports

If you need one, hurry up. Passport services will end within a short time depending on when funding runs out.

Immigration services

Most employees of the Department of Homeland Security are considered essential and will remain on the job. Immigration services are mostly self-funded, so those offices will continue operating.

According to Mark Levn, 98% of the feral government shuts down on weekends and federal holidays, but only 17% of the government shuts down during a shutdown.

The military will continue on at full capacity. When they get paid will depend on when schumer quits grandstanding over illegal alien "rights".

Kalifornia will continue to enact stupid things over illegal aliens like prosecuting employers that comply with federal law.

Piglosi will catch up on her long overdue botox shots. She was looking pretty rough in the last dim group photo just before the shutdown.

The media will continue to call this Trump's shutdown because they have dropped all pretense of being impartial or objective.

So, nothing really different is happening.

My husband’s boss says to report to work tomorrow. He’s in IT for a DOE site.

There should be a large clock...like the debt clock...informing American citizens how much we are saving during Schumer’s shutdown.

The problem with that is that the shutdown is a farce. Once Congress does pass a bill to reopen the government, most of those who were on not-getting-the-paycheck status will get reimbursed. Thus, their pay is delayed but they still get it.

And horror of horrors, the panda cam at the Smithsonian Zoo will be turned off. Camera #2 was already off Saturday.

Funny, the zoo is requesting public donations to get a camera for the mole rat. Why aren’t the panda, lions and elephant cameras set up on donations, too? Or are they but the libs are making a statement?

The demonrats have 10 days before the military and other government employees get their regular paychecks. This is just grandstanding.

We aren’t saving anything. In fact, we’re losing money. The employees will get their pay in full when the bill passes but no work will have been accomplished in the mean time. Paid vacation.

Will this cause delays?

I think they will be open. I read that they are funded by the year and most things should be normal.
