Internal Justice Department probe eyes McCabe’s role in final weeks of 2016 election
The Washington Post ^ | January 30,2017 | Devlin Barrett and Karoun Demirjian

The Justice Department’s inspector general has been focused for months on why Andrew McCabe, as the No. 2 official at the FBI, appeared not to act for about three weeks on a request to examine a batch of Hillary Clinton-related emails found in the latter stages of the 2016 election campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

The inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, has been asking witnesses why FBI leadership seemed unwilling to move forward on the examination of emails found on the laptop of former congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) until late October — about three weeks after first being alerted to the issue, according to these people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

A key question of the internal investigation is whether McCabe or anyone else at the FBI wanted to avoid taking action on the laptop findings until after the Nov. 8 election, these people said. It is unclear whether the inspector general has reached any conclusions on that point.

A major line of inquiry for the inspector general has been trying to determine who at the FBI and the Justice Department knew about the Clinton emails on the Weiner laptop, and when they learned about them. McCabe is a central figure in those inquiries, these people said.

The FBI declined to comment, as did a spokesman for the inspector general. An attorney for McCabe did not respond to a request for comment.

He can’t lose his pension unless he’s convicted of a few specified serious crimes. If he doesn’t go to jail, he’ll get a job with a DC law firm at probably seven figures, rendering his $100k pension pocket change.

In the Washington Post..maybe they have to start covering the “news”

And even this is a fairly minor point compared to some of the other things I’ve heard.

Looks like Devlish Devlin is trying to restore his reputation.

Remember, he was the favorite reporter of Strzok and Page, and published anything they told him.

McCabe must be in deep doo doo if the Compost is reporting this

Or, he's their designated scapegoat.

Sorry, Compost, you're not aiming high enough. The corruption and sedition goes way higher than the FBI.

“His wife’s money was not from the DNC but from Terry McAwful, a longtime close friend of the Clintons.”

My understanding is that a large chunk of the McCabe cash came from a fund raising event for her headlined by...Hillary Clinton.

OK. But what’s the strategy? This appears to be a leak from the oig’s office.

They’ll keep their powder dry until the memo comes out—it names names. They’ll try to claim that the highest person named was kept in the dark. I’m going to guess that will be Lynch.

More likely they are going to throw McCabe under the bus in hopes of limiting the fallout of this growing scandal to him. Try to focus on his obvious problems while ignoring other more significant players like Comey, Rosenstein, Lynch, Hillary, Obama and others.

Its just the WP’s lame attemtp at damage control.

Exactly. McCabe is soon to be retired and old news. Perfect fall guy.

I don't remember where I read this, but I seem to recall that Comey said that he sent the letter to Congress in part from pressure he was getting from the NYC office of the FBI.

It seems he was afraid it was going to leak, so he finally sent the letter in late October 2016. And of course, 30,000 emails were cleared over the weekend!

WaPO’s goal is to try and keep this from getting to Rosenstein because if it takes him down Mueller is a dead man walking.

Not gonna work.

OIG is coordinating non-classified leaks strategically with Judiciary, according to CTH. The reason for doing that is so that they can also leak to Mueller. Strategy is if Mueller (who appears to be dirty) is advised that OIG has specific people who will be referred for prosecution, he cannot immunize them.

The people OIG has in his sights are already in the trap. He won't leak them unless their firing or resignation is imminent. At that point I think the people at DOJ/FBI lose their inherent immunity and might turn to Mueller to escape.

That route will apply to McCabe if he is formally fired before his announced retirement.

He's already a dead man walking.

Everyone the OIG intends to refer is already in the trap, or this wouldn't be leaking. See my previous post.

Perfect fall guy.

*************

Just like misdirection is used in the world of magic. They will try to make McCabe the sacrifical lamb but I don’t think its going to work. Lots more revellations yet to come.

And we need to find out who orchestrated this cabal. That’s what the WP doesn’t want us to find out.

$460K+ from Terry The Punk, the rest of it by various Clinton/Clinton connected fundraisers.

Quite a bit came from the DNC as well, according to articles I’ve read.
