Many people forgot about “Open Border.” If it was pushed through in early part of GW Bush administration, the amnesty would have been essentially complete. It was stopped cold by 9/11. Vicente Fox, Mexican President at the time, became a bitter man because it was his main political objective. Bush was reborn as a anti-terror warrior, but Vincente was not able to make up for the loss. At least that is how it looked.

I've noticed this trend in advertising - both corporate and local - for several years. Everyone is touting how much they are giving to charity, how they are "giving back to the community," and words like "love" and "family" are ubiquitous.

Partly, I think this is intended to avoid left-wing shakedowns and lawsuits; also, it reflects actual leftist thought, according to which running a legitimate business is not a sufficient way of "giving back to the community," i.e., it must be supplemented by well-publicized acts of charity and community activism.

And it often becomes open advocacy of leftist causes, e.g., last year there was a local (Seattle) ad featuring members of the Seahawks and Mariners touting the gay/lesbian agenda.
