A mother of two is seeking sanctuary in a Utah church to avoid deportation.
Vicky Chavez fled Honduras in 2014 to escape domestic abuse, rape, and persecution. She says she came to the U.S seeking asylum.
I came to the U.S. fleeing domestic violence, rape, and being persecuted by my daughters father, said Chavez. Coming to the United States meant safety from a man who suggested that he knows people who could harm my family.
Chavez has a 6-year-old daughter she brought with her when she fled and a 4-month-old daughter who was born here and is a U.S citizen.
Community organizers were preparing to protest her deportation at the Salt Lake City International Airport on Tuesday, but at the last minute, Chavez decided to take a chance finding sanctuary rather than risk putting her childrens' lives in danger.
The First Unitarian Church opened its doors right away.
We have volunteers that will be staying with Vicky 24/7, said Amy Dominguez, a member of the group Immigrant Unity. Everyday that she needs to be there she will be under protective custody, but ICE can still go in and detain her. If that does happen our plan is to expose ICE and pull out or camera and put it on video and show the public what it is like to have a mother detained in front of her children.
Reverend Tom Goldsmith, the senior minister of the church, says the congregation unanimously decided to shelter Chavez and her daughters while their asylum case awaits approval.
"This church has opened its doors to a neighbor. We are all neighbors to each other and must therefore open our hearts in compassion," Goldsmith said.
Her application for asylum is still pending but according to ICE, she would be deported while her asylum case winds its way through the immigration system.
But...but...but she’s the mother who had two, not one, two hardworking, taxpaying “valedictorians!
Hmmm...Does it look anything like this?
I expect Reverend Tom to open his church and home to other lawbreakers, such as armed robbers, rapists and murderers. Fair is fair. After all, they’re “neighbors”, too, and deserve compassion, right ?
Clinton and Reno got Elian out BEFORE his court date so they wouldn’t have to deal with a judge allowing him to stay.
I recognize that you are being sarcastic, but we're talking about Unitarians here...
Them or the Episcopalians (AKA The Church of the High Holy Anus and Sainted Rectal Prolapse).
Countries that are closer to Honduras than the United states:
Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Jamaica, Columbia.
But oh, it’s the responsibility of the United states to take her in. The United states is the worlds babysitters, no matter where you live, everybody has to sneak into the United states. Why do you think that is? Because they know immigration laws are BS here. They are NOT enforced because nothing is more important than getting a junkie like Nancy Pelosi votes.
She complains about getting raped in Honduras so the first thing she does upon stepping foot in the USA is to get pregnant so she could give birth to an anchor baby.
This is fraud of the highest order. KICK HER OUT!
Arrest them all.
L
That’s another thing I was waiting for Trump to say at his state of the union, was to put an end to this anchor baby scam once and for all but he never did unless I missed it. That BS has GOT to end, it has absolutely ZERO benefit for the United states and it costs the US taxpayers a fortune in medicaid. Some other freeper was telling me they have a hospital in California where they ship in women from China so they can give birth in the USA and taxpayers pay for all the medical costs, nice little scam going on there. The hospital rakes in the money for an anchor baby factory.
That pic needs to go viral - with the appropriate caption, giving “credit” where it’s due, i.e., Clinton/Reno. Billboards would work, as well as 5-second flashes on TV.
That's a euphemism for malcontent, dishonest rabble-rousers. Never give them the time of day.
Theres a Unitarian Church in Utah?! The members must be besieged by Mormon missionaries!
sorry lady, plenty of domestic abuse here in the USofA. I don’t see her reason as a valid reason to allow her to stay.
She sounds like she was coached by a corrupt immigration lawyer or another corrupt democrat. Polygraph her, and then deport her if she has lied about anything relevant. My preference? Deport all illegals. No exceptions. No hearings.
As Judge Judy would say, “You picked him”
Let them record ICE arresting them for aiding and abetting - then when they are handcuffed in the back of the vehicles, go in and get the illegal....
Mine too.
But we have to change the law first. And to change the law we have to change congress.
Way too many of the people in congress today are in the pockets of businessmen that are making a lot of money employing illegals.
Republican or Democrat doesnt matter. We have to find out their position on this and get out the illegal alien supporters.
Regardless of how white,or black,or brown,or yellow,or young,or old,or male,or female,or "transgendered" they might be.
