Chain migration is an idiotic concept which was last relevant in the days when someone invested their life savings to board a steamer and bade their family farewell for good. The only contact they might have thereafter was an occasional letter.

Said concept became outdated long before Ellis Island closed in 1954. It is even more outdated now when an international airline ticket may be purchased for a couple of months wages and salary (at most) and usually far less.

Just one airline (Delta) runs multiple flights per day to Mexico City for about $200 each way. International flights today are more common than Chicago to San Francisco railroad tickets were when Ellis Island opened (1892).
