Democrats on Tuesday won yet another special election for a state legislative seat once held by a Republican, this time in a battleground seat south of Tampa, Fla.
With all precincts reporting, attorney Margaret Good (D) took 52 percent of the vote, ousting Sarasota real estate agent James Buchanan (R).
Good won despite Buchanan's well-known name: His father, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R), owned some of the largest car dealerships in the area. He now represents a district in Congress that includes the legislative seat in which his son ran.
President Trump carried the state legislative district by a five-point margin in 2016. It came open when the incumbent Republican quit to spend more time with her family and building her business.

There are enough of us to hold the line and even make gains in November - perhaps even substantial gains in the Senate - if voters are not apathetic about voting since we have the Presidency...the talk radio circuit is rightfully focusing on the corruption regarding the dossier, etc. that other outlets are doing little reporting on...but need to hopefully start spending a lot more time on the fact we do have elections going on this year we need to be gearing up for...a successful election will damage momentum for the false narratives created by the press and the left...but if they win, it will only just be beginning with a big push for impeachment, etc.
Them evil Russians ,LOL
OMG!!! Good spent MILLIONS!!! And this is his FATHER’S Vern area!!
Annoying, but we actually did better than before...only lost 7 points here. The thing to remember about these special elections is that the Democrats and the media have a PERFECT SYSTEM for them now. The Dems use their social media conduits to alert their people, while the media essentially imposes a blackout, so Republican voters have no clue that there is even an election.
Obviously that won’t be nearly as effective in the mid-terms, thankfully.
They’re energized against Trump.
That may or may not be enough to help them flip Congress.
Conservatives can’t afford to be complacent.
Look, I gotta say that we have to stop running politics this way. The Republican candidate needs to be the best man for the job determined through a competitive primary (whatever those words mean). But this business of dad's using their positions to move sons and daughters into jobs that they have no business holding has got to end. It is the death of DC and getting to be the death of this country.
I mean think GHWB - GWB - to !Jeb! -really?
Every time the R's lose one of these, it is poo-pooed as no big deal. It seems to me that if the Dims have a "perfect system" then it will be a problem for the R's in the future.
Whatever the reasons for losing these elections in various states, it doesn't seem to me that it is a very good sign for the mid-terms.
It was a swing district.
Democrats poured a lot of money into the race and they brought out their voters and Republicans stayed home.
Not surprised at the outcome.
Margaret Good is BAD....BAD....BAD!!! The local conservative paper endorsed the LIBERTARIAN!!! Obviously Vern is WEAK!
Sarasota was once a midwestern retiree town but now the Lefties from NY , NJ , VA, Mass. , Conn .. have invaded in force plus Mexicans shipped by the growers have exploded in population .
The county has changed for the worse .
Its a sad .
Well, if the Republicans go for raising the gas tax to pay for the cost of infrastructure - like they are talking about doing in committee - and they do not hold for exactly what Trump proposed on the illegals - like a 12 year path and money for the wall etc - they can kiss the midterms goodbye.
The GOP is going to lose these races unless we get our voters motivated.
The Dems funded the Libertarian third party person that split the vote .
That will be play out in 2018.
Good to hear you confidence.
I keep hearing that the reason the Dims keep winning is that they keep spending a ton on these races. Well... it must be working, because they are winning. So why won't they be pouring money into mid-term elections & why won't the R's stay home then?
What will be different then? I don't mean to be argumentative, but it just doesn't sound good to me, a novice, that the r's keep losing seats they once held.

They’re simply better organized for these elections. The Republican Party is still using AOL for correspondence, for example (or something like it).
Vern is a prototype rino.
His son did poorly in the debate.
There was no enthusiasm for him except among party brats.
One good thing is that this seat is up again in November, at which time the Rs better have a decent candidate.
Dammit, I am getting tired of seeing headlines like this too.

Don’t get wrong, I prefer to win, but I’m not going to jump off a bridge regarding these elections, for the reasons I noted (I was ready to leave the country if Hillary won). We’ll see in November, it is still a long way off and a lot of stuff is coming together against the Democrats right now, regarding their spying on Trump.
“””James Buchanan’s well-known name: His father, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R)”””
You have to understand that James Buchanan was a loser candidate from the get go. James Buchanan was originally running as a Republican candidate in a neighboring district, but soon found that his only claim to fame was his father. So James opted to temporarily ‘move’ his residence to this district in hopes he could win.
This is what happens when RINO Republicans are offered to the voters.
I live here, and it’s the candidate, stupid.
If Jeb had run against Hillary, Hillary would have won.
