Parkland students show why 16-year-olds should be able to vote
CNN ^ | February 19, 2018 | Joshua Douglas

The real adults in the room are the youth from Parkland, Florida, who are speaking out about the need for meaningful gun control laws. They are proving that civic engagement among young people can make a difference. The ironic part? They can't even vote yet.

Several municipalities in the United States allow 16- and 17-year-olds to vote in local elections. Takoma Park, Maryland, was the first city to lower the voting age, thanks mostly to the advocacy efforts of youth themselves who convinced the city council that they should have a voice in local governance. Other cities in Maryland, like Hyattsville and Greenbelt, have followed suit. Larger cities are also debating the measure: In 2016, Berkeley, California, voters agreed to lower the voting age to 16 for school board elections, while a ballot proposition in San Francisco to lower the voting age for all city elections narrowly lost. Advocates are likely to try again in San Francisco in 2020.

These students are being exploited and told what to say. CNN wants to lower the voting age to help Democrats.

Because they can't even think yet, their ignorance is astounding. Their inability to reason is the only takeaway I have.

If they can vote, they should also be allowed to drink, join the military, get married and buy guns.

They should not be able to vote until they can pay for their own health insurance.

The corrupt media went on a fishing expedition to find students who agreed with their crooked agenda and then gave them unlimited media time.

The conservative students were heard from once, and then forgotten.

The students in agreement with the crooked Democrats are useful idiots.

Does Joshua Douglas not realizing that he is worshipping Tide pod eaters?

As for the voting age, I would have enacted a Constitutional amendment to allow states to raise the voting age to 25, which is the average age at which the human brain finally matures.

Young people only know what they are taught in socialist government schools.

Which reminds me...since so many FReepers seem to support government schooling, should those same FReepers endorse the product, and therefore also support the concept of these kids voting? No?

Leftists want the age of sufferage to be as low as they can make it go. They would be happy with 8 yrs old.

Because the brains of young people are often receptive to a convincing teacher or media.

And we have seen the overwhelming ideological makeup of the majority of teachers/media, and they are not at all bashful about propagandizing, evangelizing, or indoctrinating children who are in kindergarten.

That would just be more brains full of mush for them to fill.

And get their own health insurance! If you vote at 16, then you’re dropped from your parents’ coverage.

Why not enfranchise 13 year olds? In the Jewish and Muslim traditions, one becomes an adult at 13.

the need for meaningful gun control laws

How about this meaningful gun control law?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Effective gun control means hitting the target. Takes practice, not more laws.

Now, if we want to talk about mandatory gun ownership and training, I'm listening.
