One week after a mass shooter Nikolas Cruz murdered 17 people inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Broward's top cop on Thursday revealed a stunning series of failures by the sheriff’s department.

A school campus cop heard the gunfire, rushed to the building but never went inside – instead waiting outside for another four agonizing minutes as Cruz continued the slaughter.

I understand what you are saying. But I know men who have been in combat and I know men who have run towards danger, into fires, and to the rescue.

When you are faced with children getting killed the response should be automatic.

A police officer is supposed to be trained to handle this.

Might teachers with guns, who personally know the kids under attack, react more successfully?

yes.

“Why did he refuse to go inside if this is true?”

Because there was a nutcase inside with a rifle killing people.
Cop wanted to go home that night.

Hence the importance of arming _teachers_: give the people who will be targets the option to fight back. You can’t assume people, even armed, will rush into harm’s way - you have to arm those who will need to get _out_ of harm’s way.

And yet they hysterically call out everyone else, as though “gun control” will work

Laws, laws, and more laws. Don’t really mean much if Big Brother’s unwilling to enforce them.

Cowards everywhere in this saga

Fire the damn Sheriff . . . and more

They may have adopted the boys, but they were infants. Why are they continually called adopted? They were their kids.

"The school is useless

The BoE is useless.

The county cops are useless.

The State is useless.

The FEDS are useless.

But they're good at collecting money from honest
citizens for minor traffic offenses. And yes, the FEDS are useless.

“He was there just for the pay, he didn’t care about protecting and saving lives.”

That’s exactly what the teachers will do. They will demand extra pay if they carry a gun. And yet they would never use it.

Just like they don’t actually bother to teach anything

It amazes me that so many people here think we should arm teachers. These people can’t even bother to teach our kids anything other than how to use condoms and to love diversity. Do you really want to trust these people with anything, much less educating kids and protecting them?

Bullets fired straight up aren’t a concern. They’ll go up, they’ll come down at terminal velocity. It’s the one at an angle launched like artillery that can be an issue.

Stonewall Jackson must have read that.

“Might teachers with guns, who personally know the kids under attack, react more successfully?”

In Men Under Fire - S.L.A. Marshall - wrote a book on WW2 that analyzed why some men fight and other men simply hide in battle.

The primary difference was alligance to their fellow soldiers. Makes a compelling point about those “who know the kids personally.”

Teachers with some chalk can’t bother to teach. So I would say no.

We have some of the lowest scores in math and science in the entire civilized world. If it doesn’t start in the classroom I don’t know who’s to blame then.

I don’t believe the solution lies with in the public education system. They are the problem. The solution has to come from the outside, like law enforcement or retired veterans.

On the other hand, the students might actually behave and start paying attention if they knew teachers might be armed :-)

Never bring a pistol to a firefight. A pistol is for making it to your battle rifle.

I’d stick with a rifle.

Failure of the officer to engage the shooter can be understood once you understand that the number one goal of the police is to go home without a scratch at the end of your shift. Using a handgun against a guy with an AR15 is not the best way to do that.
