The ownership of Dick’s Sporting Goods appears to be attempting to leverage the tragic shooting of school children into a marketing opportunity. The company has been exposed for its doublespeak on its decision to stop selling so-called “assault rifles.”
Dicks Sporting Goods, Inc. [NYSE: DKS] announced on Wednesday its decision to not only stop selling AR-15 style rifles, but to jump in the middle of the gun control debate. The statement from the company announced it would stop selling “assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles,” in the wake of the tragic murder of 12 high school students in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day. However, the statement appears to be more of an attempt to leverage the deaths of the children in a marketing campaign or to protect the company’s stock value.

Dick’s owns Field & Stream. Anyone familiar with Field & Stream knows people that like guns shop there.

Dick’s primary business is non-guns sporting goods. This was never a professional store to patronize for ANY gun purchase.
It is highly possible Dick's have been told by their liability insurance provider that they either drop assault type weapons from their product list or find a new insurance company.
One way or another some lawyer(s) will take legal action against Dick's retail operation - so they decided to get out in front of the issue.
Meh, who cares? This box store will be out of business in ten years.
Why? I don't even know where there is one where I live in rural Florida.
Solves that problem.
I emailed them to tell them I will never step into there stores again, let alone buy anything from them.
Not that I ever have.

It must have made big news somewhere among the usual suspects CNN, NYT, WaPo because I heard about the same trope about “a well-known gun chainstore stopped selling arms of war”... on a French national radio (BFM radio) today.
To say the context, all French national radios (they are not many, just 4 or 5) talking about the US are like CNN, with the same fake news sometimes repeated line by line, but with about 2x more arrogance and 10x more hypocrisy than CNN.
Here is the 1 year range for DKS. As you can see, it has dropped by almost half since March of last year.

Dick’s Sporting Goods might as well take all guns and ammo out of their store. They are not true supporters of sportsman, they only support snowflakes in tight leotards.
