President Trump launched into a freewheeling, televised strategy session with lawmakers over the issue of guns by declaring that he will unilaterally bar so-called bump stocks and asking Congress to send him one terrific bill aimed at reducing gun violence.
Im going to write that out, Trump said of bump stocks devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire like fully automatic weapons while speaking to lawmakers gathered at the White House for a much-touted summit on gun safety. Saying he can bar bump stocks with an executive order, Trump added: You wont have to worry about bump stocks.
Trump also pressed lawmakers to send him one terrific bill combining several proposals aimed at reducing gun violence, although that could complicate the legislative outlook for such a contentious issue. Congress is already struggling to clear a relatively noncontroversial measure meant to simply improve the reporting of key information to a federal background-checks database.
It would be so beautiful to have one bill, Trump told lawmakers at the White House.
The session came weeks after a deadly high school shooting in Parkland, Fla., that left 17 dead and spurred fresh calls for action to tighten gun restrictions.
Trump also repeatedly clashed with Republican lawmakers during the summit as he appeared more sympathetic to Democratic proposals. In one exchange, Trump chastised Sen. Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.) for resisting a move that would raise the minimum purchase age for rifles to 21.
When told that a higher age limit wasnt included in a universal background checks bill written by Toomey and Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), Trump told Toomey: You know why? Because youre afraid of the NRA.

That’s why this is an opening to overturn the ‘86 machinegun ban.
There are lawsuits waiting to happen, pending the BATFE allowing a post-’86 one - a scenario they _can’t_ screw up, and Trump is about to push them into exactly that.
Yep, doing something useless.
4D chees or sumthin.
This isnt that hard. If you want an AR, clearly you are mentally ill?
I want one! Does that make me a mental case? I just don’t want to pay 600-1700 for one.
I think so, too. Trump is at least 5-6 steps ahead of the dimorat clown posse. Trump is advised so very well and he’s too smart to cave to the dims.
Barack Obama has got to be kicking himself.
“You mean all I had to do to ban bump stocks is write an Executive Order? I WANT A RE-DO ON MY PRESIDENCY!”
We’ll see.
Well, he will be known as the Gun Control President after this shit.
Maybe this will convince the Democrats not to impeach him, though. He’s doing way more gun control than Obama did.
Meanwhile, a perfectly legitimate company with employees and investors sits and waits for our King to determine their right to exist based on no facts, logic, nor information.
Great.
We definitely lu need to find a good conservative candidate to run in 2020! This man has gone off the rail. Big time Sad
“I like taking the guns early,” Trump said, adding, “Take the guns first, go through due process second.”
They will protect your gun rights the same way they recently protected you from warrantless surveillance, and like they uphold your "right to privacy".
The police saw that he was a problem, they didnt take any guns away, Trump said. Now that could have been policing, but they should have taken them away anyway, whether they had the right or not.
The problem is the ban on machine guns is completely and utterly unconstitutional. The 1934 gun control act effectively did REPEAL the 2nd amendment as intended by the founders. What remains is a government approved and regulated simulation of the right to bear arms. The RIGHT to bear arms has been gone for a long long time and the effect of that loss is starting to rear it's ugly head. You see it's not a right if the president can issue and EO or the BATFE can issue a ruling or this or that is subject to government approval or licensing.
Ask yourself: Why does the EPA, IRS, BATFE, Department of education, the capital police, the secret service, FEMA and nearly every single government alphabet agency have MACHINE GUNS?
Ask yourself: what need do these government agencies have for Machine guns and why are they allowed to have them but the American People are not? We have seen the competency of government in action when it comes to firearms. I trust the American People first.
It's way past time to stop blaming guns and FULLY RESTORE the 2nd amendment rights of the American People.
It is absolutely insane to have even openeded up this “discussion”. We got played and stepped right into the liberal dog sh*t.
It’s for the children.
What are we gonna do though...
Not vote for him next time around ?
Maybe we dust off our 8-years-ago-selves and pick up where we left off ?
Somebody has to break though to him. This guy has totally lost his connection to us. We’re no longer even on his radar. He went from that guy that even Alex Jones could talk to, Roger Stone’s friend - To this completely unavailable spook. Not even West Wingers can get near him.
I don’t work for the Executive Branch. Get back to me when you pass an actual law.
As far as gun control the way to win is to go after the NFA, the gun control acts of 34 and 68. These two acts are the root of all gun control and have effectively repealed the 2nd amendment. Educate everyone. There is no reason why every government alphabet agency is armed to the teeth with machine guns yet they are banned for the American people. Clearly that is not what the founders intended by right to bear arms. Join the NRA and change the NRA From within to support a repeal of the NFA laws.
As far as the President, I don't know. It sure seems like something has changed suddenly. The only thing I can think of is that he has a very big heart and he has been emotionally affected by this latest shooting. Hopefully some of our posts and sentiments will get back to him and he will come back around.
