Trump shows he has a sense of humor at Gridiron Club dinner

President Trump proved he actually does have a sense of humor about himself by joking at Saturday night’s annual Gridiron Club dinner in Washington about a meeting with Kim Jong-un. Trump said he’d talk with Kim, but the North Korean dictator would be facing “the risk of dealing with a madman.’’ Trump began his remarks by saying it was “an honor to be at the dinner,’’ and telling the audience of journalists that they’re “really quality people.” Then he went for laughs.

“Another calm week at the White House,” he said, “we finally have it running like a fine-tuned machine.” He also joked about family members working in his administration. Trump said he was late to the dinner, because his son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, whose security level was downgraded recently, “couldn’t get through security.”

I honestly don’t think Trump has a sense of humor at all.

Then you are missing something. The guy is a master of the deadpan mic drop. He twinkles a little and he smiles a lot. His sense of humor is targeted and usually, after he delivers, the room is silent because he has just nailed it before they explode in laughter. He will then stand there smiling and making embracing gestures.

He gets it. Most of us get it. His enemies get it.
You should try getting with it. It’s very cathartic.

Someone once characterized Trump’s humor as something ‘we do in Queens’. It’s a sophisticated version of ‘yo mama’. People mess with each other. It’s funny.

A roast is his natural element. He can take it and dish it out twice as hard.

I first became aware of Trump during the 1980s when he got media exposure for taking over a stalled Central Park skating rink reconstruction project, and cutting right through the political knots and getting the rink up and running. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2015-09-29/a-1980s-new-york-city-battle-explains-donald-trump-s-candidacy

A key paragraph: Trump had Wollman Rink up and running by November 1, two months ahead of schedule and $775,000 under budget. Skating stars like Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Dick Button, and Aja Zanova-Steindler glided across the ice at the ribbon cutting, with Button declaring the new rink to be like skating on velvet. “This serves as an example of what New York, the wealthiest city in the world, can do in terms of saving money—if things are done right,” Trump said. “If we could just plan and execute, it would be billions and billions of dollars that would be saved.”

You are so correct.

And one of the most important tools in comedy is, the enormously important...timing.

And President Trump has it in spades.

He has the best quips of any President we have had. He has an amazing sense of humor if you look for it.

His retort to the Hildebeest when (and I paraphrase)she expressed gladness that he was not in charge of the Justice Department will live forever in the annals of presidential debates, towit: "If I was, you'd be in jail!"

NYC humor is hard to get since most don’t understand the language. He speaks in shorthand so you have to learn to understand it before you can appreciate his jokes.

I guess you never saw him at a rally. He has a sense of humor and a great sense of timing.

Hey reformy,

If you ever worked on a construction site, you’d get his humor, or you’d be shunned and mocked by your coworkers, and have your lunch box hidden (or worse...) That’s just the way it is on a construction site.

I find it odd that I can't find a video of the whole thing.

Do you know of a video/link to it?
I'd like to see/hear it for myself, not filtered through the MSM.

It’s a private function and no media or raping is allowed at this function.

We should be grateful for that.

That’s what I’ve heard. And he made his boys work on site, starting at the bottom.

I was a kid in the 1950s. No one was especially kind. You learned to give it back or you were just out of the loop with a target on your back and things would get worse. Kids from big families always knew how to handle it best.

And I’m a girl....the crap and bullying from the girls was just as bad, if not meaner.

President Trump is a master troll. There’s a good YouTube video that fully explains his history as ubertroll.
