Warming trends: Climate change to shorten Mt. Spokane’s season
The Spokesman-Review ^ | March 4, 2018 | By Becky Kramer

Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park’s parking lot was packed with cars on a recent weekday morning.

Skiers strapped on boots amid a light snowfall, anticipating a powder day on the slopes. At the top of the chairlifts, the snow pack was about 8 feet deep – close to the seasonal average for the nonprofit ski hill in Spokane’s backyard.

Future decades won’t be so kind to the resort on Mount Spokane.

New research from Oregon State University indicates that today’s young skiers could see significant changes in snowpack by the time they reach middle age. By the end of the 21st century – when their grandkids or great-grandkids are skiing – temperatures above freezing could cost the ski hill an entire month of snow.

For skiers, that would mean bare slopes and rain at Mount Spokane during one of the core winter months of December, January or February. For the Inland Northwest, it would be a tremendous hit for winter recreation.

At Mt. Spokane, McQuarrie is hopeful the pace of global climate change can be slowed, allowing future generations to enjoy high quality skiing.

Last year, Colorado scientists ran a case study on the future of the U.S. ski industry, using different climate scenarios. They looked at scenarios where greenhouse gas emissions peaked in the 2040s, and rates where emissions continued to grow through the end of the 21st century. For the ski industry, there was a projected $2 billion revenue difference in lift ticket sales, based on the different climate outcomes.

“Hopefully in the next 100 years, this can get a lot better,” McQuarrie said of the anticipated temperature increases.

Once again we learn that unseasaonbly warm weather is climate change but unseasonably cold weather is just weather.

What a bunch of rim jobs. They can’t even accurately predict next weeks weather. And someone is paying these reds to come up with this drivel?

Let us spend $trillions now so this calamity may or may not be avoided.

Cyclical changes are now always attributed to global warming. The food production increases worldwide from every degree of average temperature increase are enormous.Do we care about starvation? Hell no.

I’ve now read stories predicting no more beaches, no more chocolate, now no more skiing! Gee if it gets to no more tacos, I’m on board with the total tyranny to stop this menace.

“New research from Oregon State University”

Nonsense. It is only a new “study” (not original research) that simply put some specific locality through the same circular logic of the already faulty “climate models”.

You take a faulty model, accepting its faulty predictions as verbatim truth, and simply apply factors from some specific locality to it and wa la - a “new research” is born.

We were told the same thing about Colorado ski areas twenty years ago. We were told by people who were wrong.

The Gulf Coast of Florida was 500 miles west a few million years ago, the central region of the US was underwater, in Vermont, there’s a coral reef, so we can never affect the planet.

Back in 2001 they were predicting that snow would be a thing of the past by 2012. “They” means climate modelers (not genuine scientists).

So, in there they go again, saying “could.” Always know that “could” also means “could not.” Yes, the snow “could” go away, just as it did by 2012! Or, it could not.

We should always remember that in global warming religion, the absence of snow is to be viewed as evidence of global warming. The presence of snow is also to be viewed as evidence of global warming.
