In the United States, weve arrived at a pair of mutually exclusive convictions: that liberal, capitalist democracies are guaranteed by their nature to succeed and that in our Trumpist moment they seem to be failing in deeply unsettling ways. For liberals and by this I mean inheritors of the long liberal tradition, not specifically those who might also be called progressives efforts to square these two notions have typically combined expressions of high anxiety with reassurances that, if we only have the right attitude, everything will set itself aright.
Hanging on and hoping for the best is certainly one approach to rescuing the best of liberalism from its discontents, but my answer is admittedly more ambitious: Its time to give socialism a try.

The stupid just drips off of this snowflake
I have grey hairs older than that and twice as knowledgeable.
Someone got a really good batch of crack this week to be this delusional.
Our stated purpose is securing the "Blessings of Liberty" to a specific "posterity." Crack pots with egalitarian theories simply have no right--that is no legal right--to tamper with the American heritage,

There is nothing in our founding documents that guarantees success. The Golden Apple surrounded by a Silver Frame provides the opportunity to strive for success but there can be no guarantees. The only guarantee in the Constitution is a Republican Form of Government.
This article points out the Washington Post Agenda more than it points out Elizabeth Bruenigs ignorance of her countries founding.
What kind of b.s. article is this? Authoress just ignores history, or is ignorant thereof, and just spouts “I think we should try socialism”. Why not Nazism, Stalinism, or Pol Pot ism?
“I would support a kind of socialism that would be democratic...”
It’s an oxymoron. You can’t redistribute wealth if people have liberty and are free to say “no thanks, I’d rather not”. It can only be done with the use of force. Sure, you might wait until you can rig a symbolic vote before you use that force, but the force is coming one way or another.
“what does decommodifying labor mean?”
Know-nothing socialist thinks it means: “you get paid regardless of how much you work”
Real socialist application would be: “you work regardless of how much you get paid”
